About the Role:
The Activities Coordinator in the Health Care Services industry plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for patients and residents by planning, organizing, and implementing engaging and therapeutic activities. This position requires a compassionate and creative individual who can assess the interests and abilities of diverse populations to tailor programs that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The coordinator will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, families, and volunteers to ensure activities are safe, inclusive, and aligned with care plans. Success in this role results in improved patient satisfaction, increased social interaction, and overall positive health outcomes. The Activities Coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and continuously evaluating program effectiveness to adapt and improve offerings.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher in Recreation Therapy, Social Work, or related field preferred.
- Experience working in a healthcare or residential care setting with vulnerable populations.
- Basic knowledge of activity planning and therapeutic recreation principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organized records.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Therapeutic Recreation or Activity Coordination.
- Experience with electronic health records and activity management software.
- Training in first aid and CPR.
- Familiarity with regulations and best practices in healthcare activity programming.
- Demonstrated ability to lead group activities and motivate participants.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a variety of recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to the needs and preferences of patients or residents.
- Coordinate schedules, resources, and volunteers to ensure smooth execution of daily and special events.
- Assess individual participant needs and abilities to customize activities that promote engagement and well-being.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to integrate activities into overall care plans and address any safety or health concerns.
- Maintain detailed documentation of activities, attendance, and participant progress for reporting and quality improvement purposes.

The required skills enable the Activities Coordinator to design and deliver meaningful programs that meet the physical and emotional needs of participants daily. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with healthcare teams and engaging patients and families effectively. Organizational skills help manage schedules, resources, and documentation to ensure smooth program operation and compliance with healthcare standards.
