District Manager in Walton Beach, Florida at M&R Enterprises of Brevard Inc
Job Description
DISTRICT MANAGER
SEPD | Florida | Field-Based | Multi-Site Travel Required |Panhandle
Position Summary
SEPD is seeking an experienced, people-focused District Manager to support a portfolio of independently operated convenience stores. The District Manager serves as a trusted business advisor, coach, and field partner to Store Operators, helping them strengthen execution, improve business performance, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.
Success in this role requires the ability to influence results through trust, credibility, coaching, accountability, and partnership. Because Store Operators employ and lead their own teams, the District Manager must create value through sound business guidance, consistent follow-through, strong relationships, and practical operational support.
A central responsibility is leading SEPD’s CFI operating model: Clean, Friendly, In-Stock. The District Manager helps Store Operators improve customer experience, sales, fuel gallons, profitability, merchandising, foodservice execution, inventory discipline, and team capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary business advisor and field partner for Store Operators, building strong relationships and influencing sustainable performance improvement.
- Conduct structured store visits and business reviews focused on CFI execution, sales, fuel gallons, profitability, customer experience, staffing, merchandising, foodservice, and local opportunities.
- Create practical action plans with Store Operators, establish clear commitments, and follow up consistently on agreed priorities.
- Coach Store Operators on leadership, employee engagement, retention, succession planning, inventory practices, foodservice, category execution, and operational discipline.
- Drive sales and fuel-gallon growth by identifying opportunities, supporting promotions, improving execution, and partnering with Store Operators on local business plans.
- Influence store teams through the Store Operator while respecting the operator’s role as employer and business owner.
- Lead execution of company initiatives, brand standards, regulatory requirements, food-safety practices, and customer-experience expectations.
- Partner with Category Management, Fuel, Maintenance, IT, Finance, Real Estate, and other support teams to remove barriers and improve Store Operator success.
- Communicate business-critical issues promptly, use established escalation processes, and maintain accurate follow-up documentation.
- Spend the majority of time developing Store Operators, coaching execution, improving performance, and strengthening customer experience—not serving as maintenance dispatch, IT help desk, fuel-pricing administrator, or general administrative support.
CFI: Clean, Friendly, In-Stock
- Clean: Coach Store Operators to maintain clean, safe, organized sales floors, restrooms, foodservice areas, forecourts, parking lots, and customer-facing assets.
- Friendly: Help Store Operators build a customer-first culture in which guests are welcomed, employees are engaged, service is prompt, and every interaction strengthens loyalty.
- In-Stock: Improve ordering, inventory discipline, merchandising, promotional execution, and product availability so customers can consistently find what they need.
- Use CFI assessments as coaching tools—not simply inspections—to identify root causes, agree on corrective actions, recognize progress, and sustain standards.
- Ensure CFI becomes part of daily operating routines, operator business reviews, leadership development, and store-level accountability.
Store Operator Partnership
- Understand each Store Operator’s business goals, capabilities, opportunities, and barriers.
- Provide value-added coaching that strengthens the operator’s business rather than relying solely on compliance or inspection.
- Balance clear standards and accountability with respect for the Store Operator’s independent responsibility for employees and daily store operations.
- Promote collaboration, trust, transparent communication, and shared commitment to customer and business success.
Corporate-Operated Location Note
From time to time, a District Manager may be assigned responsibility for a corporate-operated location. In those situations, the role will include greater direct responsibility for recruiting, hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, succession planning, and development of store managers and team members.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive multi-unit retail leadership, field operations, operator support, or comparable business-consulting experience.
- Demonstrated success coaching Store Operators, managers, or multi-unit leaders and influencing results without relying solely on positional authority.
- Strong understanding of retail operations, customer experience, sales, margins, labor, inventory, foodservice, and performance improvement.
- Strong financial and analytical capability, including the ability to interpret store trends and translate data into practical action.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, conflict-resolution, organization, and follow-through skills.
- Convenience retail, fuel retail, foodservice, independent operator, or partner-network experience strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory, including occasional overnight and after-hours support.
What Success Looks Like
- Store Operators view the District Manager as a credible, trusted business partner who adds value.
- CFI—Clean, Friendly, In-Stock—improves consistently across the assigned portfolio.
- Sales, fuel gallons, profitability, customer experience, and execution trends improve.
- Store Operator and store leadership capability grows, and future leaders are identified and developed.
- Company initiatives are executed with strong communication, ownership, and follow-through.
- Cross-functional barriers are escalated effectively while the District Manager remains focused on operator development and business performance.
