Overview

Position Type Full Time
Category Purchasing - Procurement
Description

Position Summary

The Director of Supply Chain owns Plastpro's end-to-end supply chain, from demand forecast and production schedule through material purchasing, inventory, and inbound freight from vendors to outbound freight to the customer, so that the right doors ship complete and on time at the lowest total cost. This leader is responsible for production planning and scheduling, procurement, inventory and warehousing, inbound and outbound logistics and freight, and import and trade compliance across the Ohio plant and Headquarters, and reports to the President.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning, Scheduling & Customer Service

• Build and run the production schedule for molding and assembly so that it meets customer demand and uses plant capacity efficiently.

• Own the production schedule and material plan as one integrated plan, so that Sales, Production, and Purchasing work from the same numbers.

• Set and publish standard lead times by product family and manage order confirmation dates against them.

• Drive on-time, in-full shipment performance, including the on-time standards of major retail customers.

Procurement & Supplier Performance

• Secure critical materials, including resin, door skins, rails and stiles, PF frames, glass, and components, at the right cost and quality, without production lost to shortages.

• Set and maintain min-max levels, reorder points, and lead times for critical materials.

• Negotiate pricing, terms, and supply agreements, and deliver documented savings on addressable spend, net of market and tariff changes.

• Manage supplier performance, including on-time delivery and quality for the top suppliers, and escalate issues early.

• Enforce the purchasing SOPs and approval chain, ensure purchase orders are approved before receipt, and make no purchase commitments outside approved authority.

• Lead sourcing and supply readiness for new projects, including the SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) project.

Inventory & Warehouse

• Hold the inventory the schedule needs while improving inventory turns and reducing excess and slow-moving stock.

• Ensure accurate inventory records through cycle counting and reconciliation.

Logistics, Freight & Trade Compliance

• Manage inbound and outbound freight, carriers, and freight spend, including freight cost as a percentage of sales.

• Control detention, demurrage, and storage charges on imported containers.

• Oversee the import flow with the customs broker, ensuring correct HTS classification, country of origin, and duty on import entries, with no penalties due to company error.

Planning, Systems & Team

• Lead a monthly S&OP meeting with Sales, Production, and Finance, and a weekly KPI review.

• Improve forecast accuracy by product family and use it to drive material and capacity plans.

• Base decisions on ERP data and measured KPIs, and keep master data (items, BOMs, lead times, and min-max settings) accurate.

• Maintain written contingency plans for every single-source critical material.

• Raise material, capacity, and freight risks to the President in writing as soon as they are known, with options and a recommendation.

• Lead the Purchasing, Production Planning and Scheduling: set clear goals, train backups for key roles, and document performance issues promptly.

• Partner with Production, Sales and Customer Service, Finance, MIS, and Quality, and resolve conflicts based on facts and customer impact.

Key Performance Measures

Performance is measured through the KPIs below. Baselines are established with Finance and MIS during the first 90 days, and 12-month targets are agreed with the President.

• Production scheduling and customer service: on-time in-full (OTIF), schedule adherence, and standard lead time.

• Procurement and supplier performance: material shortage downtime, purchase cost savings, supplier on-time delivery, and purchase order compliance.

• Inventory and warehouse: inventory turns, excess and slow-moving inventory, and inventory record accuracy.

• Logistics, freight, and trade compliance: freight cost as a percentage of sales, detention and demurrage, and trade compliance.

• Planning, systems, and team: forecast accuracy, monthly S&OP, and supply risk plans.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience considered. An advanced degree is a plus.

• 10+ years of progressive experience in supply chain, procurement, production planning, or materials management in a manufacturing environment, including 5+ years leading a team or function.

• Demonstrated experience leading production planning and scheduling, demand forecasting, and S&OP.

• Experience managing inventory, warehouse, and shipping operations, with strong knowledge of inventory management principles (EOQ, safety stock, MRP, min-max).

• Experience managing inbound and outbound freight, carriers, and imports, including customs, HTS classification, country of origin, and duty.

• Proven negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships, contracts, and cost reduction, including through market and tariff changes.

• Proficiency with a manufacturing ERP/MRP system (Friedman experience is a plus) and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to use data and KPIs to drive decisions.

• Experience launching or supporting a new product line or project (e.g., SMC, composites, or similar materials) is preferred; experience supplying major retail customers is a plus.

• Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional skills, with the ability to work with the President, department heads, and external partners.
