SUMMARY
The Sr. Buyer will be an integral part of the materials team and make improvements that facilitates effective problem solving, process and product improvement. The Sr. Buyer will be responsible for raw material and some indirect purchases, negotiations on terms and pricing, and proactively identifying opportunities to improve pricing, quality, and vendor relationships both domestically and internally. Strong negotiation and communication skills are critical in this role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Negotiates favorable prices and terms with suppliers for goods and services.
- Ensure materials are available to meet product demand and forecasts.
- Expedites and reschedules purchased item shipments as required to meet production needs.
- Locate, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers.
- Identifies strategic improvements in the parts that are being sourced.
- Manages purchased inventory dollars to meet business objectives.
- Implements lean manufacturing principles to the supply chain, to include vendor managed inventory, kanban and visual reordering systems, inventory reduction, waste reduction, etc.
- Manages existing suppliers in accordance with company ISO procedures.
- Responsible for the issuance of contractual purchase orders for materials and services.
- Maintains accurate records for all purchasing activities; including pricing, delivery, performance, quantities received, and quality of service.
- Facilitates communication and coordinates with appropriate management on issues affecting future parts availability, work stoppage, or significant price changes.
- Manages supplier issues including late deliveries, rejected shipments, quality, and delays caused by increased customer demand.
- Works with vendors to develop product packaging.
- Verifies vendor invoices and vouchers receipted Purchase Orders.
- Supports annual physical inventory and manages supplier inventory.
- Works with management and company peers in the development of new products.

- Follows all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements directed by Edlund Company and the department.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write technical and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to engineering team and/or employees.
- Ability to use basic mathematic calculations and arithmetic.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of U.S and international monetary, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Global purchasing experience is preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and Outlook.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Crystal Reporting is a plus
- Experience with IQMS or other ERP system.

Shift is somewhat flexible - start time can be between 6am and 8am.
40 hours per week, with occasional additional hours.
