About This Position

Starting Salary Range: $88,000 - $121,000 - depending on experience

Location: Boise, Idaho

Classification: Exempt

Position Overview:

As a Mechanical Construction Project Manager, you will lead high-performing teams in design, engineering, project management, and business services. You will oversee the successful execution of major construction projects by managing the project's: personnel, financials, risks/opportunities, and schedules, through effective relationship building, communication, negotiation, scheduling, tracking, document control, and forecasting. You will mentor Project Engineers and Project Coordinators, and develop strong, positive relationships with clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and own estimates, project scoping, proposals, safety, and execution while meeting or exceeding department profitability goals
  2. Understand mechanical systems costing and value analysis
  3. Communicate with UMC engineering staff to ensure complete designs and clear scope within budget
  4. Collaborate with UMC Manufacturing (VCS and fabrication) and attend coordination meetings
  5. Support business development to secure new business and maintain client relations
  6. Develop and maintain positive client relationships
  7. Estimate and negotiate change orders
  8. Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs
  9. Buyout major equipment and subcontracts; expedite and track deliveries
  10. Maintain working knowledge of project contracts and specifications
  11. Ensure compliance with UMC Standards and contractual requirements
  12. Plan, organize, and schedule project work with field labor supervision
  13. Prepare fabrication shop work packages
  14. Ensure full compliance with UMC Safety Program
  15. Communicate proactively and professionally with team members
  16. Uphold UMC Core Values and maintain regular attendance and promptness

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Accurate estimation of mechanical work
  • Leadership and ability to foster a positive working environment
  • Understanding and communication of basic mechanical concepts
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail (errors can result in significant financial losses)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Results-driven work ethic
  • Ability to multi-task job responsibilities
  • Advanced computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (or similar e.g. ProCore), Viewpoint Vista

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Supervise and coach Project Engineers, and Project Coordinators

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience as a mechanical project manager
  • Degree in Construction Management or Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering desired
  • Experience managing PMs and PEs
  • Basic HVAC and plumbing engineering knowledge

Required Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
