Student Lab Technologist-Laboratory at CharterCARE Health Partners – North Providence, Rhode Island

Summary: Under the direction of the Laboratory Management Team, performs all workstation function in the Central Processing Department and provides support services to the technical workstations of the Laboratory including reference lab, microbiology chemistry/special chemistry, hematology/coagulation/urinalysis, blood bank HIS/LIS/Dispatch and client services.

Education: HS Diploma or GED required. Enrolled in an accredited MLS/MLT program.

Experience: Medical terminology and computer skills required. Previous laboratory experience preferred. Working knowledge of laboratory terminology and specimens required. Ability to utilize sound interpersonal skills when interacting and taking into consideration cultural background, linguistic skills and age of customers. Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines. Ability to multi-task, read and interpret data. Ability to respond to incoming calls, transcribe details and accurate messages. Ability to file data/reports utilizing system design. Maintains information confidential (HIPAA). Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers and other disciplines. Maintains professional responsibility.

Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: Works in a well-lighted and well-ventilated area. Must meet annual safety training requirements relative to a safe work place. Must meet health-testing requirements such as TB skin test annually. Frequent patient contact requires adherence to universal precautions at all times. May be required to lift heavy objects weighing 25 pounds from time to time.
