About This Position

Job Summary

MH nurses are committed to making an impact in the lives of their patients, and their colleagues. The MH nurse is professionally engaged, possesses clinical expertise, has a spirit of inquiry, embraces learning and fosters the patient relationship. This position coordinates the activities of the nursing staff and directs department activity. Management responsibilities include but are not limited to, selection for employment process; decision sharing regarding assignments; promotions; demotions; separation from employment; developing corrective action plans with measurable goals, implementing and evaluating action plans. Additional functions include positively interacting; constructively confronting; making appropriate assignments; mentoring staff; providing education for staff; and evaluating staff performance. Assures appropriate staffing levels to maintain quality patient care. Communicates at a high level with the administrative director, physicians, unit staff, ancillary nursing and other patient care personnel to allow for the best practice of patient care. Ensures the department’s mission, vision, values, and strategic and quality plan reflects the organizations current and anticipated strategic priorities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • A current Indiana Registered Nurse License.
  • Two years hospital nursing experience including one year in an intensive/critical care setting.
  • CPR certification or must obtain at next available class upon hire. Other advance life support may be required by unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Management experience resulting in proficiency in planning, organizing, and supervising nursing

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, Hospital Administrators, providers, consultants, business associates and regulatory agencies presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion General Hospital.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
  • Excellent time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to negotiate effective working relationships and develop positive resolution to conflict.
  • Highly developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.

  • High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.

Working Conditions

  • Typical hospital clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
  • Work may be subject to interruptions and occasional high stress levels.
  • Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious, electrical and radiation hazards.
  • Ability to work hours beyond the normal work week.
  • Works with highly confidential information which may be proprietary or protected health information.
  • May attend special functions and meetings at various locations within the hospital and community.
  • Occasional overnight stays.

Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment

  • Uses computer and standard office equipment.
  • Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling to provide patient care and to utilize patient care devices necessary to perform duties in a safe manner.
