What You’ll Be Doing
As a Teller at Bank Iowa, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional client service, accurately processing transactions, and creating positive experiences for clients both in person and over the phone. You will be responsible for processing both business and individual banking transactions while managing a cash drawer, which includes balancing cash accurately and efficiently. Tellers also maintain and develop a working knowledge of basic bank products and services; and support the sales and service efforts of the teller team by identifying and referring sales opportunities to the appropriate bank team member. This role offers an exciting opportunity for candidates with prior teller, banking, or some retail sales experience who are interested in beginning a career in banking at Bank Iowa.
As a Part Time Teller you can expect to work between 20-30 hours a week and must have availability to work on Saturdays. Specific hours for this role can be discussed in the interview.
Core Responsibilities
- Receives checks and cash for deposits to accounts, verifies amounts, examines checks for proper endorsement, and enters deposits into appropriate records.
- Cashes checks and processes withdrawals; pays out money after verification of identity and client balances and issues computer-generated receipts.
- Counts currency, coins, and checks received, by hand or using currency-counting machine, to prepare them for deposit or shipment to other bank locations or the Federal Reserve Bank.
- Assists clients with accessing safe deposit boxes.
- Answers client questions and provides account information either in person or on the phone.
- Researches and troubleshoots client account issues and complaints.
- Closes out accounts per client request.
- Receives and counts daily inventories of cash, drafts, travelers’ checks, and gift cards.
- Receives loan payments, issues receipt and processes payments per bank policy.
- Places holds on items per bank procedure.
- Redeems U.S. Savings Bonds.
- Runs coin machine, verifies totals and wraps coin.
- Opens the night deposit and processes per bank policy.
- Receives and processes check orders per bank policy.
- Sells and records official checks, travel / access and gift cards.
- Orders and hot cards Debit Cards.
- Balances currency, coin, and checks in cash drawers at ends of shifts, and calculates daily transactions using computers, calculators, or adding machines. Reports discrepancies to leader.
- Identifies transaction mistakes when debits and credits do not balance.
- Processes stop payments per client instructions and bank policy.
- Identifies fraudulent activity to help prevent potential losses to Bank Iowa.
- Maintains a well-developed, current, working knowledge of the complete line of products and services. Suggests and refers products and services to current and prospective clients.
General Responsibilities
- Develops and applies knowledge of the products and services available at the bank.
- Understands and complies with banking regulations by following bank policies and procedures. Stays abreast of relevant regulations, current industry matters, and any changes implemented internally to ensure compliance.
- Has access to confidential information relating to clients and accounts. Protects the privacy and confidentiality of clients, other team members, and work.
Skills/Experience You’ll Need
- High School Diploma/G.E.D.
- 6 months to 1 year cash handling and/or client experience, in professional office environment preferred.
- Ability to exhibit professionalism with internal and external clients.
- Ideal candidates will have some banking experience, strong customer service focus, ability to listen to customer needs and suggest solutions for those needs, excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to learn and utilize multiple computer applications.
