ABOUT iQ ACADEMY, LOS ANGELES AND THE PROGRAM SPECIALIST POSITION:
iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider. Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers and staff, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach.
The Program Specialist, under the direction of the Director of Special Education, will provide consultative, support and advisory services to teachers, parents, administrators, and staff in the implementation, development and operation of programs for special education students from Preschool through grade 12. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs.
HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:
Full time Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm.

Salary Range: $88,720.22 - $144,373.88
Annual salary based on holding a Bachelors or Masters Degree and up to 5 years of experience in California

Job Description
Job Title: Program Specialist
Reports To: Director of Special Education

Overview:

Summary:
The Program Specialist, under the direction of the Director of Special Education, will provide consultative, support and advisory services to teachers, parents, administrators, and staff in the implementation, development and operation of programs for special education students from Preschool through grade 12. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend all Special Education Professional development meetings in person or on phone
- Attend General Education Professional Development meetings, as needed
- Attend Program Specialist team conference via phone or Blackboard Collaborate
- Attend and present information at in person SpEd and GE (all IQLA) PD’s
- Give clarification of policies and procedures as needed to Education Specialists, Special Education placement team, IQLA Related Services Team and other specialists
- Attend high profile IEP meetings as administrative designee as needed, for region assigned.
- Hold weekly meetings with Educational Specialists
- Work closely with Director of Special Education and alert to any concerns
- Attend in person IEP meetings, as needed
- Handle requests for IEE’s as needed
- Respond to CDE complaints as needed
- Attend any mediation hearings or due process hearings, as needed.
- Proficient in MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook and Excel, receiving and sending fax information, scanning information
- Knowledge of Special Education law and the ability to articulate it
- Remain current with SELPA updates/training
- CASEMIS reporting
- Performance Indicator Reviews as needed
- Participate in LCAP, SARC, SAIP and SIP
- Participate in State Testing, as needed
- Support Education Specialists as needed
- Respond as soon as possible but no later than 24 hours to parent, student, teacher, and admin inquiries via phone and/or email during regular workweek
- Other duties as required by Director of Special Education, as needed
Experience/Requirements:
- Extremely organized
- Flexible
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledgeable in K12 curriculum and Special Education Law
- Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher or Program Specialist
- Ability to travel statewide, as requested, possibly overnight
- Can multi-task
- Attention to detail

Certificates and Licenses:
Must hold a valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate and/or Moderate/Severe Disabilities

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and participate in school activities and orientations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
