Position Summary:
The Craftperson - Facilities is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, safety, and minimal operational downtime. This role applies advanced technical knowledge across multiple skilled trades—including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and general building maintenance—to troubleshoot issues, execute repairs, and implement system improvements that enhance efficiency and reliability.
Working under general supervision, the Craftperson - Facilities routinely inspects equipment, identifies potential failures, and takes proactive measures to prevent disruptions. This role may also provide guidance, training, and oversight to junior team members, ensuring work is completed in alignment with established standards, policies, and performance targets. The position requires collaboration with internal teams, supervisors, and external contractors or vendors.
Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and proficiency in interpreting schematics and construction drawings, while maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations and company procedures. The Craftperson - Facilities is also responsible for accurately documenting maintenance activities and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the facilities operation.
Responsibilities: Essential Duties
- Performs scheduled maintenance on facilities equipment and systems.
- Repairs the malfunction of machines, systems and auxiliary equipment.
- Routinely checks on machinery and systems for signs of fault in order to prevent or minimize downtime and interruptions.
- Initiates improvement on the functionality of facilities equipment and systems to increase its efficiency.
- Senior position might acts as a team leader to ensure that the work meets agreed targets by directly overseeing team members.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the field's policies, procedures and practices
- Documents activities accordingly.
Expertise: Knowledge & Skills
- Required to apply advanced working knowledge of technical field/area of specialization. Exercises general application of principles, theories and concepts, and proposes a course of action. Performs advance shop floor competencies.
- Works under general supervision. May periodically assist in orienting, training, assigning & checking the work of other peers.
- May require some limited judgement in resolving problems.
- Contacts are primarily with department supervisors, leads, subordinates, and peers. Frequent contact with external contractors/vendors.
Expertise: Qualifications-Experience/Training/Education/Etc
Required:
- Must have High School Diploma and two year related experience
- Must have knowledge of basic carpentry such as interior wall framing, hanging framing, and installing doors, Sheetrock installation and finishing techniques, Installation of suspended ceilings. Basic floor repairs for carpet and tile type flooring.
- Knowledge of basic plumbing repair for facility fixtures and drains.
- Must be able to install conduit and pull content wire.
- Must be able to measure and interpret line and phase voltages and currents.
- Must be able to operate power snake and other drain cleaning devices.
- Understand basic mechanical blueprint reading principles.
- Understand motor controls ,sensors and electrical control devices.
- Understand basic fluids principles and apply to equipment.
- Must be able to read basic construction drawings.
- Must participate in Department specific training.
- Understand refrigeration and air conditioning principles of operation.
- Knowledge of facility roof types and basic repair techniques.
- Knowledge of boiler operation and controls.
- Knowledge of boiler heat source.
- Knowledge of boiler supply systems.
- Understand and apply SDWT principles
- Must be able to maintain electric water heating systems
- Understanding of humidification and dehumidification equipment.
- Must be able to perform preventive maintenance on facility support equipment
- Knowledge of company change control process.
- Must have a good understanding of positive pressure requirements in controlled environments
- Must have knowledge refrigerant types, condensers, pumps, evaporators, expansion devices, and safety control devices.
- Must have knowledge of Hazwoper, confined spaces, lockout / tagout and protective clothing requirements.
- Must participate in Department specific training.
- Must be able to recover and charge refrigeration systems.
- Ability to maintain facility lighting circuits, troubleshoot / replacing fixture, bulbs and ballast. (Electrician path)
- Knowledge of facility power distribution system. (Electrician path)
- Must be able to install black iron pipe and fittings. (Pipefitter path)
- Must be able to install copper pipe, tubing and related fittings. (Pipefitter path)
- Must be able to solder and braze . (Pipefitter path)
- Must be able to identify gage types, cut, and bend sheet metals. (Pipefitter path)
- Must have knowledge of operating principles of air handling systems. (Pipefitter path)
- Understand and apply SDWT principles
- Must be able to maintain chiller systems.
- Must be able to maintain cooling tower systems
- Must participate in Department specific Training.
- Must perform on the job training of co-workers.
- Ability to coordinate project assignments.
- Ability to perform welding as trained.
- Must have working knowledge of heat exchangers and their operations . (Pipefitter path)
- Must have working knowledge of U.V filtering systems. (Pipefitter path)
- Must have working knowledge of reverse osmosis process systems. (Pipefitter path)
- Knowledge of backflow presenters. (Pipefitter path)
- Must be able to maintain steam system traps, regulators, and control valves. (Pipefitter path).
- Must be able to balance HVAC systems. (Electrician path)
- Must be able to read electrical schematics. (Electrician path)
- Must be able to troubleshoot PLC controlled equipment. (Electrician path)
- Must be able to maintain emergency backup power generators. (Electrician path)
- Must be able to trouble shoot transformers. (Electrician path)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Schedule: 3x12 6pm to 6am
