Veterinary Assistant, Emergency | $20-$25/hr + $3.50/hr Overnight Differential | Full-Time Benefits | Three 12-Hour Shifts | Latham, NY
Join the emergency team at Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital where you'll gain hands-on clinical experience, work alongside experienced technicians and veterinarians, and build skills that support your path toward becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
Compensation
- $20-$25/hour, based on experience and skills assessment
- Overnight differential (11:00pm-7:00am): +$3.50/hour
- DOUBLE PAY on holidays
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Shift options may include:
- 7:00am-7:00pm
- 7:00pm-7:00am
- Occasional 10:00am-10:00pm
- Occasional 2:00pm-2:00am
- Overnight and weekend availability required

- Safely restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Provide nursing support and basic animal husbandry for hospitalized patients
- Assist with maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
- Perform nail trims and suture/staple removals as directed
- Support emergency clinicians with patient care, diagnostics, and treatments
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment environment
- Deliver compassionate care to patients and exceptional service to clients
- Collaborate with technicians, assistants, and veterinarians to provide high-quality emergency care
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in veterinary medicine
- Currently enrolled in or actively pursuing a Veterinary Technician program preferred
- Understanding of animal restraint, patient handling, and safety protocols
- Knowledge of proper sanitation, hygiene, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional growth in veterinary medicine
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital is a 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital serving pets and families throughout New York's Capital Region. Our Emergency Department provides advanced care for critically ill and injured patients while fostering a collaborative learning environment where veterinary professionals can grow their skills and advance their careers.
