The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified applicants for the position of
Administrative Assistant to the Sheriff.
This position performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties for the Sheriff’s Office. Work involves handling sensitive and confidential information requiring discretion, accuracy, independent judgment, and knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associate degree in Office Administration, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Minimum of two years of administrative or clerical experience required; law enforcement or government experience preferred.

Experience with records management systems and Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Knowledge of office procedures, record-keeping practices, and customer service principles.
-
Knowledge of Wisconsin Open Records requirements preferred.
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
-
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, law enforcement agencies, and the public.

Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and work independently.

Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records.
Wages and Benefits
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a starting wage of $22.65 - $23.89/hour DOQ. Sawyer County offers a competitive benefits package, including:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs a variety of responsible administrative, clerical, and confidential support duties for the Sheriff's Office. This position serves as a primary point of contact for the public, employees, and outside agencies and provides administrative support for office operations. Work involves handling sensitive and confidential information requiring discretion, accuracy, independent judgment, and knowledge of the Sheriff's Office policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide administrative support to the Sheriff, Chief Deputy and Sheriff's Office staff.

Answer telephone calls, greet visitors, and direct inquiries to appropriate personnel.
-
Prepare, type, proofread, and distribute correspondence, reports, memorandums, and other official documents.
-
Schedule meetings and appointments for the Sheriff.
-
Maintain filing systems, records, and reports in accordance with Sheriff's Office procedures and applicable laws.
-
Review records for confidentiality requirements and assist with redaction of protected information.
-
Enter and maintain information within records management systems.
-
Complete monthly IBR reports timely and accurately.
-
Coordinate purchase requests, invoices, and budget-related documentation.
-
Process payments, receipts, and deposits when required.
-
Coordinate and maintain office supply inventories.
-
Work cooperatively with law enforcement agencies, courts, attorneys, county Offices, and the general public.

Maintain confidentiality of criminal justice information, personnel information, and other sensitive records.
-
Maintain professional relationships with all department divisions and county agencies.
-
Serve as backup for the Records & Civil Process Clerk, including covering sick and vacation time off.
-
Perform other duties and special assignments as directed by the Sheriff or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is primarily performed in an office setting and requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting files and office materials up to approximately 25 pounds, and frequent use of computers and office equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in a Sheriff's Office environment. Employee may encounter confidential, stressful, and emotionally sensitive situations involving law enforcement matters and public interactions.
