Job Summary: The Health and Wellness Manager (HWM) serves as the administrative team leader for the Health and Wellness Program, managing daily operations related to assessment, treatment, emergency care, and case management of student health conditions. The HWM is responsible for implementing and monitoring the overall Health and Wellness Program to include medical, oral health, mental health, and substance abuse in accordance with the Job Corps Federal Regulations, the (PRH) Policy and Requirements Handbook, and federal and state laws related to professional scope of practice with a general emphasis on helping students overcome barriers to employability.

The Health and Wellness Manager oversees provision of health and wellness services including:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates and abides by the Company Core Values and the operating principles.
  • Creates and sustains positive working relationships with co-workers.
  • Provides professional customer service to staff and students.
  • Active in Center/Company Leadership program.
  • Stays current on Job Corps policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to all PRH and CSD policies and procedures, as well as the Center’s Operating Procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all student records and maintains HIPPA compliance.
  • Securely safeguards all records within the scope of the Center’s protocols and procedures.
  • Documents all procedures, counseling, and education provided to students accurately and timely.
  • Documents and submits forms and correspondence to local, state, and federal agencies to meet all requirements of the program.
  • Educates students about Health Services
  • Facilitates staff training on topics related to adolescent growth and development.
  • Follows infection control procedures.
  • Assists with maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Adheres to the departmental budget.
  • On-call support required
  • Participates in the Center’s applicant file review and serves as the File Review Team (FRT) Coordinator. Reviews all medical information submitted and sends to the appropriate Qualified Health Professional (QHP) for further review. This includes helping gather additional information from medical providers, schools or applicants to complete a clinical interview.
  • Serves and participates in the Disability Accommodation Committee (DAC) and performs duties as the H&W Co-Disability Coordinator to ensure services are provided to students with disabilities.
  • Submits recommendations to the Center Director for medical separations related to health or dental conditions on behalf of the Center Physician.
  • Provides documentation and referrals of students who are recommended for separation from the program due to health or dental conditions on behalf of the Center Physician.
  • Organizes and submits signed and approved Health Care Guidelines that include Treatment Guidelines for Health Staff and Symptomatic Management Guidelines for Non-Health Staff.
  • Conducts monthly medication reviews for students on long-term prescribed medications with the Center Physician and CMHC, as appropriate. Medication rationale and review includes student adherence, side effects, and whether or not the medication is leading to the desired effect.
  • Supervises Center Health and Wellness services and staff.
  • Facilitates student introduction to health services.
  • Completes and submits required reporting for the Health and Wellness Program.
  • Provides staff training on Staff Professional Development Days related to health and wellness
  • Provides student education/training during Student Professional Development Days and/or other opportunities as appropriate.
  • Provides staff new hire orientation for Health and Wellness and Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Conducts Center needs health/wellness assessments; plans and coordinates services and programs that respond to identified student needs.
  • Provides individual health and wellness assessments and screening, nursing interventions, emergency care, education, and referral services in conjunction with health and wellness staff and health subcontractors.
  • Serves as member of Center’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Team (SART).
  • Orders and maintains records on dispensing, inventory, and disposal of medical and dental supplies and pharmaceuticals.
  • Initiates worker’s compensation documentation and maintains secondary OSHA logs. Performs follow-up surveillance of worker’s compensation cases.
  • Performs physical and emotional wellness assessments. Establishes individualized student health and wellness plans according to protocol outlined in the center’s Health Standing Orders
  • Works closely with counselors, residential staff, and medical trade instructors in providing wellness education to students.
  • Responsible for updating Center Health & Wellness Standard Operating Procedures and Plans.
  • Works with Center management staff to develop and implement Center plans as needed.
  • Works with Center management to employ or subcontract qualified health care providers.
  • Prepares and conducts health and wellness staff performance evaluations.
  • Responsible for continuous quality improvement by seeking feedback from students, employing mechanisms to document quality care provided and quality improvement activities.
  • Conducts a cursory health evaluation of new students.
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures and collects specimens as required by National Job Corps Protocol.
  • Performs CLIA-waived testing as appropriate.
  • Administers medication, monitors, and follows up to observe students.
  • Assists with scheduling and follow up of medical appointments on Center and community appointments.
  • Performs routine medical tasks within the scope of license and documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs and Student Health Records.
  • Coordination of Chronic Care Management Plans for students with chronic illnesses.
  • Nursing assessment and triage of students with acute illnesses and concerns; implement provider orders.
  • Administers immunizations as required
  • Leads the Wellness Committee and activities.
  • Leads and supports the Healthy Eating Active Lifestyles (HEALS) committee and activities.
  • Attends required staff training sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

Minimum: Minimum of Associates Degree in Nursing. Must have active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state where the center is located.

Preferred: Three years’ experience as a practicing nurse, one of which was in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of nursing techniques/procedures and time management. Excellent communication and skills, both oral and written. Familiarity with medical needs of disadvantaged youth. Must obtain and maintain CPR. Sound management techniques. Ability to handle multiple priorities.
