Job Description
Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, policies and procedures, and under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) receives patients graciously and efficiently and assists staff as needed. Performs clerical and/or clinical duties related to day-to-day operations of the unit. Serves as a liaison between patient, office staff, and providers. The main job functions include patient scheduling, creating and maintaining patient records, and communicating accurately to others within and outside of the department. Maintaining office equipment, supplies, and processes, and problem solving are also necessary functions of the job. Must have good communication skills and interact well with patients, visitors, and associates.
Education: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
Licensure/Certification: Certification as a Medical Assistant by an approved national examination agency required. Current BLS required.
Experience: One to three years’ experience in health care required. Previous experience with Prior Authorization process preferred.
Skills: Must have excellent “customer service” and communication skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress. Must have basic computer skills and be able to print and write legibly and accurately. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
The CMA must effectively establish and maintain working relationships with patients, associates, physicians, and the public. . The CMA must have the ability to take vital signs and have knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care. Basic knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment and the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation are also required.
