Position Description

We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join our accounting and finance team. This is an exempt position and reports to the Assistant Controller for the Materials Division.

Critical job functions

  1. Track expenses related to labor, materials, subcontractors, and other costs for each location
  2. Collection, review, and entry of daily production from operations
  3. Review intra-company inventory movements including proper transfer pricing
  4. Collect monthly energy readings from Plant Managers for monthly accrual posting
  5. Regular analysis of inventory reports by locations, highlighting variances & adjustments
  6. Prepare cost-related reports for management
  7. Assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes
  8. Assist in scheduling inventory flyovers and readings, reconcile with perpetual inventory
  9. Contribute to accurate financial statements and external audit support
  10. Assist in monthly review of productions with the division and site leadership
  11. Assist in analyzing and establishing standard costs for produced materials
  12. Regularly review and update cost standards
  13. 10-15% travel required, based out of West Springfield office
  14. Other duties as assigned


Position Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  2. 3–5 years of general accounting experience, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing.
  3. Strong understanding of cost accounting principles; experience in the HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt) and aggregate industries preferred.
  4. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  5. Experience with Viewpoint Vista ERP software is a plus.
  6. Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  7. Self-motivated, curious, and able to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  8. Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and use hands, reach with hands and arms, handle, feel, talk, and listen. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten pounds.

Work Environment.

The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate in the office to occasionally loud at field locations.
