Job Description
Position Summary:
Functions as a staff nurse under the guidance and supervision of an experience
R.N. Performs routine patient care assignments and carries out established
nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process.
Qualifications:
Education:
Hold a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Training and Experience:
1. One-year experience in acute care setting preferred.
2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American
Heart Association required.
3. Successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation within 3
months of hire.
4. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the
American Heart Association within 6 months of hire or transfer to
department.
5. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the
American Heart Association within 6 months of hire or transfer to
department
6. EKG course within one year of hire or transfer to department.
7. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or
transfer to department:
• Lab order entry
• Documentation
• IV therapy
• Unit safety
• Body substance isolation
• Handling controlled substances
• Role in Code Blue
• Admitting patients to the unit
8. Outpatient PACU staff:
• Understanding anesthesia agents
• Understanding reversal agents
• Planning care of the patient
• Implementation of care
• Arrythmia recognition
• Role in Code Blue
• Pacemakers
• Respiratory needs of patients
• Neurological system
• Musculoskeletal system
• Medication decision making
• PACU equipment
• Evaluation of care
Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Ability to perform:
1. Heavy lifting
2. Sustained standing and walking
3. Work under stress
4. Varied work hours and shifts
May encounter exposure to infectious diseases.
