Job Description

Bilingual Russian/English Social Worker- Help Center

As a Bilingual Russian/English Social Worker in JASA’s Help Center, you’ll serve as the first point of contact for older adults, caregivers, family members, and professionals seeking information, support, and services. Through screening, assessment, information and referral, and benefits advocacy, you’ll help connect individuals to critical programs and resources that support aging safely and independently in the community.

Shift Schedule:

    Monday–Friday, 9AM-5PM

Hours Per Week:

    35

This is a hybrid position that requires a minimum of three (3) days per week working onsite at JASA's Central Office.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Help Center Social Worker, you’ll provide information, referral, assessment, and advocacy services to older adults and caregivers through phone, email, and text-based communication.

Information & Referral Services
    Provide information and assistance regarding long-term care services and supportsConnect individuals to appropriate programs and services based on identified needsProvide follow-up regarding referrals and service linkage outcomesServe as a resource for older adults, caregivers, families, and professionals
Screening & Assessment
    Conduct intake and screening via phone, email, and text communicationGather preliminary information about client needs and circumstancesAssess eligibility for programs, services, and benefits/entitlementsIdentify barriers to accessing services and provide appropriate referrals and advocacy
Benefits & Entitlements Support
    Assist with screening for benefits and entitlement programsProvide guidance on applications for public benefits and servicesAdvocate to help clients access eligible supportsProvide information on healthcare, social services, recreation, and community resources
Education & Care Navigation
    Educate older adults and caregivers on:Aging-related physical, social, and psychological changesAvailable community supports and servicesStrategies to maintain independence and well-being
Support transitions of care and changing service needsOutreach & Collaboration
    Collaborate with JASA programs and external service providersParticipate in outreach and education activities to promote Help Center servicesAttend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessionsBuild and maintain relationships with community partners
Documentation & Compliance
    Complete required case documentation, reports, and statistical trackingUse agency databases and systems to maintain accurate recordsFollow all JASA standards and program protocolsReport crisis situations or concerns to supervisory staff
Additional Responsibilities
    Use a strength-based, person-centered approach in all interactionsProvide culturally responsive and non-judgmental services to diverse populationsPerform additional duties as assigned
What You’ll NeedEducation
    Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Gerontology, or related field required within two months of start date
Experience
    1–2 years of experience working with older adults preferredExperience in geriatrics, intake, screening, or case management preferred
Language Requirement
    Bilingual Russian/English required
Skills & Competencies
    Strong knowledge of long-term care systems and aging services in NYCExcellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skillsStrong assessment, screening, and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to work effectively with diverse populationsStrong organizational and documentation skillsCultural competence and sensitivity to issues of race, ethnicity, religion, and identityAbility to work independently and as part of a team
Technology Skills
    Proficiency with computers and web-based systemsExperience with databases and case management systems preferredAbility to learn new technology platforms quickly
