At Volumetric Building Companies (VBC), we are redefining the future of construction. As a global leader in volumetric modular building, we integrate cutting-edge technology, precision-driven manufacturing, and expert modular construction to deliver high-quality, sustainable buildings—faster and smarter. Headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, with locations across the U.S., UK, Ireland, Poland, and Serbia, our reach is global, but our mission is deeply personal: to create spaces that improve lives.

At VBC, our people are our greatest asset. We foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous growth, where your ideas matter and your work makes a real impact. When you join us, you become part of a team that values excellence, respect, and community—a place where you can build your career while building a better world.

If you're driven to be the best at what you do and want to be part of something bigger, let's build the future together.

About the Role

The Lead HVAC Technician plays a critical role in VBC's volumetric modular production process, guiding the installation and quality of HVAC systems within building modules before they leave the factory floor. This person leads a team of HVAC technicians, sets the standard for workmanship and safety, and serves as the technical point of contact for complex system issues — both on the production line and, where needed, during final on-site connections.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Crew Oversight

  • Lead, schedule, and mentor a crew of HVAC technicians across assigned production lines or work areas.
  • Train technicians on HVAC installation methods, safety protocols, and the specific sequencing demands of volumetric modular construction.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex technical or troubleshooting issues on the floor.
  • Conduct quality inspections and sign off on completed HVAC installations prior to module shipment.
  • Coordinate with Production and Project Managers to sequence HVAC work with the broader module build schedule and minimize line delays.

Technical & Installation

  • Install new HVAC units in residential, multi-family, and commercial modules.
  • Install ductwork and thermostats to control HVAC systems within the modular unit envelope.
  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot problems with existing HVAC units, including issues that arise from the unique constraints of modular assembly.
  • Install replacement parts on existing HVAC units.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable mechanical codes, OSHA standards, and VBC safety requirements across both factory and site-based (final connection) phases.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of hands-on HVAC installation/service experience, including prior lead, crew lead, or supervisory experience.
  • EPA 608 certification required; journeyman or master HVAC license preferred (per state requirements).
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to train others in troubleshooting methods.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools, thermometers, pressure gauges, and other testing devices to evaluate HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and apply operation and repair manuals for HVAC systems.
  • Excellent mechanical skills and strong attention to quality/detail.
  • Experience in modular, panelized, or offsite construction is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with crew members, production leadership, and project managers.
Compensation & Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37.00 – $43.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

We also offer:

  • Highly competitive pay, benefits program, and flexible time-off programs
  • 401(k) program with employer matching
  • Employee referral programs with charitable donations
  • Day of Giving program to volunteer at community charities
