The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) supports and enhances the delivery of occupational therapy services by implementing treatment plans designed by a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). The COTA works collaboratively with the healthcare team to improve residents’ ability to perform daily tasks and achieve their therapeutic goals. Under the guidance of our Director of Rehabilitation, you'll perform essential resident tasks, helping us uphold our reputation for exceptional care and innovation in skilled nursing and rehabilitation.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions):

These duties and responsibilities are essential for maintaining quality resident care and ensuring smooth operations at Dwyer Home.

1. Implementation of Treatment Plans:

   • Deliver therapeutic activities and interventions as prescribed by the OT.

   • Assist residents in improving strength, coordination, and functional skills necessary for daily living.

   • Modify interventions to ensure they meet the specific needs and abilities of the resident.

2. Resident Monitoring and Reporting:

   • Observe and document resident performance and progress.

   • Communicate observations and recommendations to the supervising OT to support treatment plan adjustments.

3. Resident and Family Education:

   • Instruct residents and caregivers on therapeutic techniques and activities to continue progress outside of sessions.

   • Educate residents about the purpose and goals of their treatment plans.

4. Documentation and Recordkeeping:

   • Accurately document resident sessions, including activities performed and resident responses.

   • Maintain compliance with all regulatory and organizational documentation standards.

5. Collaboration and Communication:

   • Work closely with the OT and interdisciplinary team to deliver coordinated care.

   • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and care planning sessions as needed.

6. Compliance and Safety:

   • Adhere to all state and federal regulations related to occupational therapy.

   • Ensure resident and workplace safety during all interventions.

7. May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education and Certification:

• Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

• Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

• Current state licensure to practice as a COTA.

• Successful completion of all Dwyer Home specified training programs.

• Proficiency in reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

• Ability to write simple correspondence.

• Effective presentation skills can convey information to residents and other employees in one-on-one and small-group situations.

• Proficiency in basic mathematical operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

• Capacity to apply common sense understanding to execute detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

• Ability to handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
