Job Description

Manager of People Operations

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager of People Operations based in the United States.

This role is central to creating a positive, consistent, and well-organized employee experience across remote and hybrid teams.
You will serve as a trusted first point of contact for employees while owning critical People Operations processes behind the scenes.
The position combines employee support with benefits, leave administration, HR systems, compliance, reporting, and process improvement.
You will also help strengthen company culture through engaging offsites, virtual events, and initiatives that bring distributed teams together.
Working closely with People leadership, internal partners, and external providers, you will have meaningful ownership over day-to-day People Operations.
The ideal environment is fast-paced and evolving, requiring someone who can operate independently while bringing warmth, sound judgment, and exceptional attention to detail.
This is an opportunity to shape scalable People practices while making a tangible difference in the employee experience.

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions and People-related needs, providing approachable, consistent, and thoughtful guidance.
  • Manage leaves of absence in partnership with the external leave management provider, ensuring processes are handled accurately and employees receive appropriate support.
  • Own benefits administration, including open enrollment, qualifying life events, and coordination with brokers and insurance carriers.
  • Plan and execute company offsites, virtual team events, and culture initiatives that strengthen connection and engagement across remote and hybrid teams.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the HRIS, with a focus on data integrity, reporting, workflow efficiency, and reducing manual processes.
  • Own People Operations compliance activities, including handbook and policy maintenance, exemption analysis, ADA interactive process facilitation, and monitoring of multi-state employment requirements.
  • Build and maintain accessible People Operations resources and documentation, enabling employees to self-serve answers to common questions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve People policies, processes, and programs, with a focus on operational efficiency and employee experience.
  • Collaborate with People leadership, internal People team members, benefits partners, brokers, and other third parties to ensure effective execution of People programs.
  • Manage recurring operational responsibilities with strong ownership, reliability, discretion, and attention to detail.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of experience in People Operations, Human Resources, or a closely related function.
  • Proven experience independently managing benefits administration and employee lifecycle processes.
  • Strong knowledge of HR compliance, including multi-state employment requirements, policy development, handbook maintenance, and related People Operations practices.
  • Experience working with HRIS platforms; hands-on experience with Rippling is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute organization-wide culture and employee engagement programs aligned with broader company objectives.
  • Warm, approachable communication style and the ability to serve as a trusted resource for employees across a broad organization.
  • Sound judgment when handling sensitive, confidential, or ambiguous employee situations with discretion and tact.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing competing priorities without close supervision.
  • Strong ownership and follow-through, including the discipline to consistently manage important recurring responsibilities.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast-changing, early-stage environment, with a positive and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Collaborative mindset with a strong commitment to inclusivity, teammate support, and shared success.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is preferred.
  • Candidates based in the San Diego, California area are preferred, with the ability to work in person approximately 2–4 days per month.
Benefits:
  • Base salary range of $135,000–$155,000, with individual compensation determined by relevant skills, experience, education, and training.
  • Comprehensive healthcare plans for employees and their families, with eligibility beginning on the first day.
  • Flexible and generous paid time off to support rest and personal wellbeing.
  • Parental leave designed to support employees welcoming a new family member.
  • Monthly cell phone and internet stipend.
  • Access to WeWork locations to support flexible work arrangements.
  • Supportive OneTeam culture centered on transparency, innovation, inclusion, collaboration, and recognition.
  • Opportunities to participate in company offsites, virtual events, and culture-building initiatives.
  • Flexible environment combining remote work with occasional in-person collaboration for team members in the San Diego area.
  • Access to resources and technology designed to help employees perform at their best.
  • Commitment to reasonable workplace accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
