Senior Backend Engineer
Location: Remote-friendly; preference for candidates within commuting distance of Buffalo, NY for occasional in-person collaboration. Travel may be required for industry events or strategic meetings.

Position Overview:We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team and play a key role in building, scaling, and maintaining high quality web applications. You’ll work closely with product, design, and engineering teammates to deliver reliable, well architected solutions and help set technical standards across the team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on development, mentoring others, and influencing technical direction without being fully removed from the code.
Key Responsibilities: ● Architect full-stack solutions across font end, database, mobile ● Design, develop, and maintain scalable PHP applications and APIs ● Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code following best practices ● Collaborate with Product and Design to translate business requirements into technical solutions ● Lead code reviews and help establish engineering standards ● Optimize application performance, security, and scalability ● Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive root-cause resolution ● Mentor junior and mid-level developers ● Contribute to architecture decisions and long-term technical roadmap ● Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: ● US Citizenship ● 8+ years of professional experience with PHP development ● Strong experience with modern PHP frameworks (Laravel, Symfony, or similar) ● Solid understanding of object-oriented design and design patterns ● Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs ● Strong knowledge of SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) ● Familiarity with frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) ● Experience with version control (Git) and interactive rebase ● Experience with CI/CD pipelines ● Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail ● Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical partners
Compensation & Benefits:
CompensationThe base pay range for this role is $120,000 – $160,000 per year.
