Accountabilities

As a Senior Power System Engineer specializing in ERCOT interconnection, you will lead technical studies, provide engineering expertise, and support the successful delivery of complex grid integration projects. You will collaborate with internal teams, clients, utilities, and industry stakeholders to develop innovative solutions and ensure high-quality technical outcomes.

  • Lead generation and merchant transmission interconnection efforts within the ERCOT footprint, serving as a technical expert throughout the interconnection lifecycle.
  • Develop optimal grid interconnection strategies by evaluating system impacts, grid capacity, and technical requirements.
  • Perform advanced power system studies, including electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies, dynamic impact assessments, and model benchmarking activities.
  • Create, validate, and tune PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT plant models for renewable energy, battery storage, wind, solar, and conventional generation projects.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on power system modeling challenges, plant model validation, and compliance requirements.
  • Lead large-load modeling studies and evaluate dynamic system performance to support interconnection decisions.
  • Conduct specialized grid studies, including reactive power compensation analysis, due diligence assessments, and technical evaluations.
  • Support business development activities by preparing technical scopes of work, proposals, and client-facing materials.
  • Develop innovative study approaches and contribute to technical knowledge-sharing across the organization.
  • Mentor junior power system engineers and support the development of engineering capabilities.
  • Represent the organization in technical meetings, industry events, and conferences.
  • Stay current with emerging energy technologies, grid modernization trends, and industry best practices.
Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced power systems engineer with strong expertise in generation interconnection, grid modeling, and ERCOT processes. You should have a combination of advanced technical knowledge, analytical capabilities, and communication skills to support complex engineering projects and client relationships.

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Power Systems Engineer supporting generation and transmission interconnection projects.
  • Strong understanding of the ERCOT interconnection process, from initial application through commercial operation; experience with other Independent System Operators (ISOs) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with PSCAD and PSS/E modeling.
  • Experience performing ERCOT Model Quality Testing (MQT).
  • Experience conducting EMT studies, dynamic simulations, and advanced grid impact analyses.
  • Strong understanding of power system modeling, grid reliability, and renewable energy integration.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality technical deliverables.
  • Experience using AI and automation tools responsibly to improve engineering quality, productivity, and innovation.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
