Job Description

Life & Annuity Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Life & Annuity Specialist based in Canada.

This role offers an opportunity to apply your life insurance and annuity expertise to the development and evaluation of advanced AI systems.
You will design realistic advisory, underwriting, policy-service, and suitability scenarios grounded in real-world industry practices.
Your expertise will help assess whether AI-generated responses are accurate, practical, mathematically sound, and aligned with professional standards.
You’ll work across complex topics including product selection, mortality risk, policy mechanics, underwriting, taxation, replacements, and long-term guarantees.
The role is well suited to experienced insurance professionals who enjoy analytical work, careful judgment, and translating industry knowledge into clear written reasoning.
You’ll collaborate with a research team through structured feedback, calibration sessions, and ongoing evaluation activities.
This is a flexible, impact-oriented opportunity to help shape how next-generation AI understands and reasons about life insurance and annuity products.

Accountabilities:
  • Design realistic scenarios covering life insurance and annuity advisory, underwriting, new business, policy administration, and suitability decisions.
  • Develop detailed work products such as coverage recommendations, illustration comparisons, underwriting assessments, suitability rationales, replacement analyses, and policy-service determinations.
  • Create high-quality reference responses that reflect the reasoning and standards expected from experienced life and annuity professionals.
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses against structured criteria, including product accuracy, suitability, mathematical correctness, disclosure adequacy, and practical applicability.
  • Identify errors such as unsupported illustration assumptions, unsuitable recommendations, confusion between product types or tax treatments, and failures to apply replacement or disclosure requirements.
  • Assess whether responses appropriately account for policy mechanics, long-term guarantees, financial considerations, and customer circumstances.
  • Provide clear, structured written feedback to help research teams improve AI model performance and reasoning.
  • Participate in onboarding sessions, office hours, calibration activities, and other collaborative evaluation processes.
  • Apply sound professional judgment while recognizing when matters require licensed, tax, investment, or legal expertise.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail across all assigned evaluations and deliverables.
Requirements:
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in life insurance or annuity advisory, underwriting, new business, policy administration, product management, or suitability review.
  • Experience working with at least one major product family, such as term life, whole life, universal life, indexed universal life, variable life, fixed annuities, indexed annuities, or variable annuities.
  • Strong understanding of policy mechanics, including cost of insurance, crediting methods, caps, participation rates, surrender charges, riders, guarantees, and other factors affecting long-term policy outcomes.
  • Ability to understand and explain product suitability, tax considerations, and the practical implications of different insurance and annuity strategies.
  • Strong quantitative skills and attention to detail, particularly when reviewing illustrations, calculations, policy structures, and long-term financial outcomes.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, precise, well-supported professional analysis.
  • Strong judgment and analytical reasoning, including the ability to identify unsupported assumptions, inconsistencies, and inappropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to distinguish insurance-product and suitability analysis from investment advice and formal tax or legal advice.
  • A professional background as a life or annuity producer, advisor, underwriter, policy-service specialist, product professional, or suitability/replacement reviewer is highly relevant.
  • Professional designations such as CLU, ChFC, FLMI, CFP, or a comparable credential are an asset.
  • An active or previously held life and health producer license or securities registration is an asset.
  • Experience with medical or financial life underwriting, including APS review, laboratory interpretation, or reinsurance referrals, is a plus.
  • Experience with specialized cases such as buy-sell arrangements, key-person coverage, estate planning, premium financing, or executive benefits is a plus.
  • Familiarity with suitability requirements, Regulation Best Interest (Reg BI), and state replacement and disclosure rules is advantageous.
Benefits:
  • Flexible engagement with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, with 40+ hours preferred.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development and evaluation of next-generation AI systems.
  • Work centered on your existing professional expertise rather than requiring a transition into traditional software or AI roles.
  • Exposure to complex insurance reasoning, product evaluation, and structured AI assessment methodologies.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with research teams and contribute expert feedback that directly influences model development.
  • Immediate start opportunity, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
  • Qualified applicants are considered fairly, with reasonable accommodations available upon request.
  • Referral opportunity: eligible participants may earn up to $250 per successful referral, subject to applicable terms and restrictions.
