Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to perform various production administrative activities including processing information, monitoring customer orders, and processing production orders.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers’ expectations.
  • Follows the documented quality systems and processes to satisfy our customers’ needs.
  • Compiles and records production data from such documents as work/production orders and production timesheets, following prescribed record keeping procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assure completeness of operator paperwork, and record production data, including volume produced, consumption of raw materials, or quality control measures.
  • May edit or prepare production work/production orders to support production process.
  • Contribute to receiving process of inventory. This includes raw material, inventory from outside processing vendors, and all operating consumables.
  • Contribute to shipping process of customer orders for Springfield location. This includes preparing shipping documents, packing, and communicating with appropriate parties.
  • Participates in back up and cross training support within the Production Admin team to ensure operational continuity.
  • May assist supervisors, managers, or other departments in other duties or special projects as needed.
Requirements:

Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Clerical: Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Communicating with Supervisors and Peers: Providing information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Safety and Security; Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
  • Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, and uses
  • Handling and Moving Objects: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating materials.
  • Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events: Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings: Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Interacting with Computers: Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Tools: Computer, scanner, copier, personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, welding shield, etc.), and welding equipment.
  • Technology: Electronic mail software, time management software, and ERP software.

Qualifications

  • This position requires the individual to have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2-5 years of previous experience in the field or related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree is preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience with ERP or MRP software.

Preferences

  • Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Experience in the steel industry, manufacturing, or with metals service center operations.
  • Ability to read blueprints or customer drawings for manufactured parts and assemblies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Environment and Conditions

  • Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and be able to communicate verbally, in writing, and take direction. The employee is frequently required to move about the buildings, be in a stationary position, use eye-hand coordination, and operate heavy machinery. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
