The Electrical Wastewater Project Engineer will focus on wastewater equipment and processes and will be an integral part of our Engineering team efforts to support our clients as we develop innovative, engineered solutions that meet their needs. To be successful, the Electrical Wastewater Project Engineer will have a high level of technical curiosity and willingness to learn about our wastewater process, equipment options, and client needs.
Key Responsibilities for the Electrical Wastewater Project Engineer:
- Assist Project Managers in exceeding client expectations by developing technical options
- Utilize Probst configuration model and templates for design, including Treatment Unit Sizing, Pipe Sizing, Motor List, etc.
- Analyze client data for use in design development
- Analyze existing treatment processes and wastewater characteristics to determine current loadings on wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs)
- Evaluate, select, and apply configured wastewater treatment technologies, equipment, and processes to optimize performance and develop designs
- Develop bid requests by evaluating quotations for equipment and contractors
- Work with designers to develop site layouts, process flows, and process instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
- Perform and review design calculations and write finalized engineering reports.
- Support the proposal process via technical reports and memos
- Mentor Engineering team members
- Lead vendor oversight: hold controls suppliers accountable for technical standards, schedule, and quality
- Drive standardization of control narratives, documentation, and SCADA approaches
- Other duties as assigned
Travel Expectations: Up to 20% as business needs require
Requirements:The ideal candidate will have either:
- An Electrical Engineering Bachelor's Degree, or Controls Engineering Bachelor's Degree (or related field) from an accredited institution, and have 3+ years of experience reviewing electrical controls, electrical schematics, or control drawings
OR
- Have 8+ years of experience approving electrical controls, electrical schematics, or control drawings
In addition, they will have:
- Hands-on experience programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms)
- Experience with SCADA systems used in utility or process environments
- Familiarity with industrial instrumentation (flow, pressure, level, pH, turbidity, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs
- Ability to create electrical schematics, equipment & specifications, and control drawings
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in process-driven environments
Preferred Experience:
- 3+ years of experience supporting electrical controls within industrial, municipal, or wastewater treatment environments
- Knowledge of chemical dosing systems and process control loops
- Familiarity with telemetry, remote monitoring systems, and data logging
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, DNP3, etc.)
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design tools
