Director of Operations – Diagnostics

Location: Southfield, MI (Travel Throughout Metro Detroit Required)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Leadership

Lead the Future of Diagnostic Services at EPIC Health

At EPIC Health, we believe timely, accurate diagnostics are essential to delivering exceptional patient care. We are seeking an experienced Director of Operations – Diagnostics to oversee the operational performance, growth, compliance, and strategic direction of our laboratory and imaging services across multiple locations.

This role is responsible for ensuring diagnostic operations run efficiently, safely, and consistently while supporting organizational growth and delivering an exceptional patient experience. The ideal candidate is a strong operational leader with experience managing multi-site laboratory and radiology services and a passion for process improvement, quality, and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

Operational Leadership

  • Provide operational oversight for all laboratory and radiology services across EPIC Health locations.
  • Develop and implement standardized workflows, policies, and procedures to ensure operational consistency and efficiency.
  • Monitor service delivery, turnaround times, patient throughput, and operational performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to optimize diagnostic operations and patient access.

Laboratory & Imaging Management

  • Oversee daily operations of laboratory and imaging departments, including staffing, scheduling, workflow management, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to support patient volume and operational needs.
  • Partner with clinical leadership, radiologists, pathologists, and vendors to maintain high-quality diagnostic services.
  • Support expansion of diagnostic services and implementation of new technologies and capabilities.

Quality, Compliance & Accreditation

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements, including:
  • CLIA
  • OSHA
  • HIPAA
  • State laboratory and radiology regulations
  • Accreditation standards as applicable
  • Monitor quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develop corrective action plans and operational improvements when needed.
  • Prepare departments for inspections, audits, and accreditation reviews.

Financial & Business Operations

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.
  • Monitor productivity, revenue cycle performance, utilization, and expense management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profitability while maintaining quality standards.
  • Analyze performance data and develop action plans to improve operational outcomes.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing leaders and team members.
  • Establish performance expectations and accountability measures.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, patient-centered care, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Human Resources on workforce planning and employee development initiatives.

Strategic Growth & Expansion

  • Support diagnostic service expansion initiatives across existing and new locations.
  • Evaluate opportunities for new imaging modalities, laboratory capabilities, and service offerings.
  • Participate in facility planning, equipment acquisition, and operational readiness for new sites.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on long-term growth strategies for diagnostic services.

Vendor & Equipment Management

  • Manage relationships with laboratory vendors, imaging vendors, service providers, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance programs are in place for all diagnostic equipment.
  • Monitor vendor performance, service agreements, and contract compliance.
  • Assist in evaluating and selecting new equipment and technology solutions.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Clinical Laboratory Science, Radiologic Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive healthcare operations leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years managing laboratory, radiology, diagnostic imaging, or ancillary healthcare services.
  • Experience managing multi-site healthcare operations.
  • Strong understanding of diagnostic service workflows, regulatory requirements, and operational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration(MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or related field.
  • Experience within physician practices, outpatient healthcare organizations, or integrated healthcare systems.
  • Experience overseeing both laboratory and imaging operations.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or process improvement certification preferred.
  • Experience with Athena, RIS, PACS, LIS, or similar healthcare technology platforms.
