Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Inside Machinist I in National City, CA

Position Summary

The Inside Machinist will support ship repair and overhaul operations. In this role, you will assist with machining and repairing components used in marine systems, including propulsion equipment, pumps, valves, and structural hardware. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their manual machining skills within a dynamic ship repair environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, saws, and related machine shop equipment to machine and repair parts for ship repair projects.

  • Assist with machine setup, including loading and securing materials, selecting and installing cutting tools, establishing work holding, and preparing fixtures.

  • Machine components supporting repair of propulsion shafts, pump housings, valve bodies, brackets, flanges, and other shipboard hardware.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, repair specifications, and shipyard work packages.

  • Perform in‑process and final inspections using precision measuring tools.

  • Perform basic machine adjustments, establish reference points, and verify dimensions throughout the machining process.

  • Document machining operations, inspection results, and deviations.

  • Follow all safety requirements, including PPE use and lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

  • Support senior machinists with complex setups and troubleshooting.

  • May support urgent repair needs during vessel availability periods.

  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • At least six months of machining, machine shop, or related mechanical experience.

  • Basic understanding of manual machining processes, machine shop practices, and shop safety.

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow written repair instructions.

  • Familiarity with calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.

  • Willingness to work in a fast‑paced machine shop environment with shifting priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality marine components.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a level necessary to understand work instructions, safety procedures, technical drawings, and to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, engineering drawings, and safety procedures.

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.

  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail during machining and inspection tasks.

  • Ability to document work performed and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support urgent repair needs during vessel availability periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience machining stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, and other marine‑grade materials.

  • Experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, or other conventional machine shop equipment.

  • Completion of a machining, manufacturing technology, or related vocational/technical program.

  • Understanding of tolerances, fits, and basic GD&T used in ship repair.

  • Prior experience in a shipyard or heavy industrial repair environment.

Pay Range

The pay range for this is $19.69 to $28.67 per hour. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, education and experience.

  • Machine shop environment.

  • Noise conditions range from quiet to very loud.

  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms.

  • Regular communication (hearing/speaking).

  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) and ability to see details at a distance.

  • Bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs, and work in positions required for machining tasks.

  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery, heavy materials, and other industrial hazards.

  • Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel‑toe boots.

  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching.

  • Ability to use hands and fingers to handle tools, operate manual machine shop equipment, and manipulate small components.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to hear and respond to audible machine alarms, instructions, and safety signals in a noisy environment.
