Job Description

Technical Artist Isometric Strategy Title

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Technical Artist – Isometric Strategy Title in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of art, engineering, and performance optimization within a high-quality game development environment focused on an established strategy franchise. You will be responsible for enhancing visual fidelity, shader quality, and in-game performance while working directly inside a proprietary engine. Acting as a technical bridge between artists and engineers, you will help translate creative vision into efficient, real-time solutions that meet strict performance constraints. You will collaborate closely with animation, modeling, VFX, and engineering teams to improve assets, optimize rendering, and support production workflows. The role involves solving complex technical-artistic challenges, often within tight engine limitations, while maintaining visual quality and gameplay stability. This is a highly collaborative position where your technical artistry directly impacts both the look and performance of the final player experience.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will support both the artistic and technical sides of development, ensuring visual quality, performance optimization, and smooth integration of assets within the game engine.

  • Act as the embedded Technical Artist within a proprietary engine environment, supporting both art and engineering workflows.
  • Optimize game performance and improve framerate stability through profiling, debugging, and asset/renderer improvements.
  • Develop and implement shader solutions to enhance visual quality while maintaining performance constraints.
  • Support animation, modeling, texturing, and VFX teams with technical guidance and implementation assistance.
  • Translate artistic intent into efficient real-time solutions, ensuring assets are optimized for gameplay use.
  • Identify and resolve technical-artistic issues independently while collaborating closely with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Serve as a bridge between Art, Engineering, and engine systems to ensure smooth production pipelines.
  • Document tools, workflows, and production pipelines clearly to support team understanding and scalability.
  • Contribute to creative problem-solving by proposing innovative or non-standard technical solutions.
Requirements:

You bring strong technical artistry skills, a problem-solving mindset, and experience working within real-time game development environments.

  • Experience as a Technical Artist in game development, ideally within real-time or strategy game projects.
  • Strong understanding of shader development and real-time rendering principles.
  • Familiarity with VFX pipelines, asset creation workflows, and game asset optimization.
  • Working knowledge of C++ for engine-level or tool-related development.
  • Experience with asset management and production pipelines in game engines.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to find creative solutions within technical constraints.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in small, high-performance teams.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills for technical workflows and tools.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with profiling and performance optimization using GPU vendor tools.
  • Understanding of particle systems and animation-driven effects.
  • Experience working with proprietary engines or custom in-house tools.
  • Familiarity with Perforce (P4V) and GitHub workflows.
  • Experience with or exposure to real-time strategy game development.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range of $85,000 – $115,000 CAD annually.
  • Remote-first work environment with flexible working arrangements.
  • Opportunity to work on a well-established and beloved game franchise.
  • High-impact role contributing directly to visual quality and game performance.
  • Collaborative, creative studio environment working alongside experienced developers and artists.
  • Exposure to proprietary engine development and advanced technical-art workflows.
  • Opportunity to solve complex real-time rendering and optimization challenges.
  • Long-term career growth within a creative, independent game studio environment.
