Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician and Driver assists the pharmacist in the preparation and distribution of prescriptions for patients of Medical Associates Plus (MAP), operating under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The role also includes responsibilities related to inventory management, customer service, data entry, and delivery support. This position is vital to ensuring patients receive timely and accurate medications and providing support for pharmacy operations in accordance with federal and state regulations.
This position will be a floater position between Wren, Thomson and Augusta.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Retrieve medications from pharmacy shelves, count, and label prescription containers under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.
- Enter prescription and patient information into the computerized database and adjudication systems.
- Verify prescription information from patients or electronically received prescriptions from healthcare providers.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and respond to refill requests in accordance with policy and under pharmacist supervision.
- Process payments for prescriptions, perform cashier duties, and issue receipts as needed.
- Assist with the distribution of prepared prescriptions under the supervision of the pharmacist.
- Monitor pharmacy inventory levels and reorder medications and supplies as directed; assist in identifying and removing expired stock.
- Assist the pharmacist in the preparation and labeling of clinic-use medication orders.
- Handle sensitive and confidential patient information in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to patients and internal staff.
- Perform driving duties to deliver medications, supplies, or documentation as assigned, ensuring compliance with safety standards and confidentiality requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role and under appropriate supervision.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Active Pharmacy Assistant license required (as per state requirements).
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required for driving responsibilities).
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 6 months of prior pharmacy or retail experience preferred.
- Must demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to accurately perform basic math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Must maintain discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, stretching, and reaching to access files and inventory.
- Occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 15 pounds.
- Manual dexterity required for operating computer systems, handling prescriptions, and driving.
- Visual and auditory acuity required for computer and phone use.
- Must be able to handle a high-stress environment and frequent interruptions.
Working Environment
- Work is primarily performed in a clinical pharmacy setting with frequent interaction with patients and healthcare staff.
- Exposure to diverse patient populations, medical conditions, and occasional high-stress scenarios.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support operations.
- May include driving duties for deliveries or patient service support.
