POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Control Specialist is responsible for overseeing the operational lifecycle of fleet assets within the Solution Center, ensuring equipment is maintained, and deployment ready to support project team operations. This position is responsible for achieving a minimum Ready Line target of 80% rental-ready equipment while driving continuous improvements in safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fleet Intake & Quality Assurance
- Manage the intake process for all returned equipment, including initial inspections and operational triage.
- Coordinate technician inspections, diagnostics, and repair evaluations.
- Document equipment condition, damage, and repair requirements, including maintaining photographic asset records in T3.
- Ensure returned equipment is accurately identified, properly classified, and placed in the appropriate yard location.
Yard Operations & Workflow Management
- Manage equipment movement through established yard workflow processes to maximize operational efficiency and fleet availability
- Maintain visual management systems that classify equipment based on readiness status, including:
- Triage: Equipment in this area needs diagnosis and inspection
- Ready Line / Staging Area: Fully inspected, service, and deployment-ready equipment.
- Minor Repair: PM services, minor repairs, and short-duration parts replacement with a turnaround time of 2-3 days.
- Major Repair: Equipment requiring extensive repairs, major component replacement, or long-lead parts.
- Quick Turnaround: Equipment requiring no repairs and available for immediate redeployment.
- Monitor equipment progression through each workflow stage to minimize turnaround time and maximize Ready Line availability.
Shop Planning & Fleet Readiness
- Conduct daily Plan of the Day (POD) meetings with the Shop/Service Manager.
- Balance upcoming customer reservations from EMP team in T3 against fleet availability to establish repair priorities.
- Coordinate repair schedules with Service/ Shop Managers to ensure equipment is available to meet customer demands and project timelines.
- Monitor shop throughput and identify opportunities to improve repair cycle times.
Rental Fulfillment & Logistics
- Convert approved equipment reservations into active agreements.
- Verify inspections, documentation, and quality control requirements are complete prior to equipment dispatch.
- Coordinate equipment staging, dispatch activities, transportation schedules, and driver logistics.
- Serve as the primary operational contact for equipment transfers, third-party haulers, and regional transportation activities.
Fleet Optimization
- Partner with regional Solution Centers to identify available fleet and optimize equipment utilization across locations.
- Coordinate quality control processes for equipment shared between regions to ensure consistent readiness standards.
- Communicate owned asset availability with Equipment Managers and Equipment Management personnel to improve fleet visibility and utilization.
Customer Experience & Continuous Improvement
- Own Net Promoter Score (NPS) follow-up activities by investigating negatively scored customer surveys and coordinating appropriate follow-up actions.
- Communicate customer service issues, such as late deliveries, to Logistics and other internal stakeholders to support timely resolution and continuous improvement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for haulers at the Solution Center, ensuring drivers receive the appropriate documentation prior to departure.
- Prepare and distribute required shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOLs), rental tickets, and internal McCarthy transfer paperwork, to support equipment dispatch and transfers.
Operational Excellence
- Participate in annual inventory counts, asset audits, and inventory reconciliation activities.
- Own Net Promoter Score (NPS) follow-up activities by investigating negatively scored customer surveys and coordinating appropriate follow-up actions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in equipment rental or construction related industry with supervisory experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelors degree in construction management or related field preferred.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships across Solution Centers, project teams, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and decision-making abilities to effectively prioritize business needs.
- Valid Drivers License required
- Ability to occasionally travel across sites and to key company events.
