Job Description

About the SVP, Product Strategy Position:

The SVP, Product Strategy is responsible for defining and executing the product strategy, commercialization approach, and growth initiatives for Avalon's genetic testing management business. This position provides strategic leadership for a key business vertical and is accountable for product vision, roadmap development, market strategy, partnership strategy, and overall business performance. The SVP, Product Strategy collaborates closely with executive leadership to identify market opportunities, evaluate competitive dynamics, establish product investment priorities, and drive business growth. This position is responsible for assessing emerging healthcare market trends, developing go-to-market strategies, identifying strategic partnerships, and ensuring the delivery of differentiated solutions that meet customer and organizational objectives. The SVP, Product Strategy serves as a strategic leader within the organization and works cross-functionally with Product Management, Clinical, Operations, Technology, Sales, Marketing, and Client Management teams to support growth, innovation, and long-term business success.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel is required to Avalon’s corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

SVP, Product Strategy – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Continuously scan the healthcare market, including new technologies, data sources, care models, and unmet needs, to identify opportunities for new products, expansion of existing offerings, or channel and strategic partnerships.
  • Explore precision medicine opportunities to address under-testing, delayed diagnosis, and mismatches between patients and the therapies best suited to them.
  • Build and maintain an active industry network through attendance at industry events and conferences.
  • Develop well-supported business cases for promising opportunities.
  • Partner with Avalon executive leadership to stress-test concepts for scientific soundness and commercial viability.
  • Maintain a current view of healthcare, health data, and value-based care markets.
  • Evaluate new business models and partnerships that could extend Avalon’s value beyond its current client base.

SVP, Product Strategy – Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) years of experience in product strategy, product management, business strategy, healthcare technology, healthcare services, managed care, health plan operations, or related fields.
  • Five (5) years of leadership experience with responsibility for product strategy, commercialization, business growth, and market development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing product portfolios and business performance within regulated healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with product commercialization, market expansion, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Marketing, Public Health, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing product strategy within healthcare, payer, health technology, managed care, or healthcare services organizations.
  • Experience with profit and loss (P&L) management, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and business case development.

SVP, Product Strategy – Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Public Health (MPH), or a related field.
  • Experience leading product organizations within healthcare technology, managed care, payer solutions, utilization management, clinical programs, population health, or healthcare analytics organizations.
  • Experience developing and commercializing solutions for health plans, providers, employers, or healthcare technology organizations.
  • Experience developing channel partnerships, strategic alliances, and business development initiatives.
  • Experience supporting products or services within highly regulated healthcare environments.
