Job Description

Summary:

This seasonal, part year position, directs YWCA York’s Camp Cann-Edi-On summer (11 week) Day Camp program, and all aspects of operations of the program. The position will be part time for April and May and full time through the camp season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Conduct annual evaluations for all camp staff and encourage annual goal development and growth.

· Maintain and communicate YWCA policies and procedures with the staff, children, and parents. Communicate with parents and community stake holders regarding enrollment procedures, facility activities, and policies.

· Research and follow current trends in the ACA, Camp industry. Assist in grant applications and grant reporting. Help fund development to research and contact possible funding sources.

· Facilitate the supervision of Camp programs. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

· Provide statistical data monthly to the fund development dept to assist in maintenance of grants and UW funding.

· Must assure all Department of Human Services licensing requirements are met, including maintaining staff and children's files, ratios, and facility compliance.

· Maintain an open and positive relationship with Camp families and ensure their program expectations are being met.

· Assist in training and supporting the implementation of camp activities to meet the needs of the children and the community.

· Conduct orientation and training for all camp staff.

· Strategically works with CCYPO to design a plan for on-going growth and improved quality of services to camp children.

· Assist with preparation of publicity to promote activities such as brochures, employee recruitment, educational programs or other services.

· Play an active role in promoting all YWCA offerings and programs and services.

· Assist in the preparation of the camp budget and oversee management of expenses related to Camp Cann-edi-on. Develop a budget with support of CCYPO and CFO.

· Participate on the Camp Committee and assist with strategic planning.

· Explore internal synergies with other YWCA programs to utilize camp.

· Oversee the hiring of camp counselors, lifeguards, and cook. Maintain staff files to remain in compliance with DHS licensing standards and YWCA York personnel policies/procedures. Support staff on an ongoing basis.

· Oversee and facilitate the recruitment and enrollment of children in Camp Cann-edi-on programs and maintain files in accordance with DHS licensing requirements and capacity.

· Ensure that staff receives required trainings for all camp programs. Conduct staff orientation for all new and returning counselors.

· Oversee the completion of daily, weekly and monthly program reports, weekly enrollment reports, parent surveys, and monthly marketing reports on a timely manner.

· Support staff in providing monthly calendar or newsletter with an outline of specific activities. Coordinate Orientation Nights, Overnights, and Family Nights with cook, and other necessary staff.

· Support staff in focusing on preventative behavior strategies and discussing camper’s behavioral or learning problems with staff, and encourage learning experiences by reviewing evaluations on campers as needed.

· Promote YWCA services to increase community awareness. Publicize all programs at Camp Cann-Edi on and encourages community rentals.

· Evaluate programming at Camp and manage scheduled events.

· Maintain a professional relationship with campers and act as a role model for expected behavior.

· Other duties may be assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Supervises Camp in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in elementary, early childhood, special education, child development or the human services field required.

At least 5 years of programming for school age children and knowledge of camp a must.
