Role Overview

The Director of Program Design & Learning is responsible for overseeing the design, quality, and continuous improvement of TKH's learning experiences across youth, adult, and workforce development programs.

This role serves as the bridge between instructional strategy, learner needs, industry expectations, and program implementation. The Director will lead curriculum planning and instructional design efforts, coordinate content development across subject matter experts and instructors, and ensure that TKH programs deliver engaging, relevant, and effective learning experiences.

The ideal candidate combines expertise in instructional design, learning sciences, workforce development, and user-centered design with strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning Strategy & Oversight (40%)
  • Provide strategic oversight of TKH's Teaching & Learning (T&L) ecosystem and instructional design function.
  • Hire, develop, and evaluate the Teaching & Learning Managers and Instructional Team, standardizing quality assurance tools supporting student program satisfaction goals.
  • Develop and maintain a high-quality instructor talent pipeline, including the recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of instructors, facilitators, and subject matter experts to support both TKH core programs and fee-for-service engagements.
  • Establish quality standards, certification processes, and professional development pathways for instructors to ensure consistent learner outcomes and instructional excellence across all programs and regions.
  • Partner with Alumni and Career Services teams to create pathways for qualified TKH alumni to serve as instructors, facilitators, teaching assistants, and subject matter experts, strengthening workforce development outcomes while building a sustainable talent pipeline for TKH programs.
  • Ensure all learning experiences align with TKH's program outcomes, learner needs, employer expectations, and organizational goals.
  • Define and maintain standards for curriculum quality, instructional design, learner engagement, and assessment practices.
  • Develop processes and frameworks that create consistency across programs, regions, and delivery models.
  • Oversee curriculum planning efforts and establish priorities for new content development and program improvements.
  • Conduct regular observations of programs and share findings with program managers to support continuous improvement and inform professional development.
  • Support managers with troubleshooting instructional challenges, implementing new strategies, and tracking progress towards goals.
Program Design & Instructional Quality (40%)

  • Scope, prioritize, and delegate curriculum and content development projects across the Teaching & Learning team for both TKH core programs and Training Solutions
  • Lead instructional workforce planning to ensure TKH maintains sufficient teaching capacity, expertise, and scheduling flexibility to successfully deliver programs across schools, corporate partners, community organizations, and custom training engagements.
  • Collaborate with instructors, subject matter experts, and program staff to design engaging learning experiences.
  • Oversee lesson design, project-based learning activities, assessments, facilitator guides, and learner resources.
  • Ensure content reflects current industry practices, emerging technologies, and workforce demands.
  • Maintain a scalable content development workflow and quality assurance process.
  • Conduct learner experience audits and reviews across TKH programs.
  • Analyze learner feedback, engagement metrics, completion rates, and outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead initiatives to improve learner satisfaction, retention, and program effectiveness.
  • Develop recommendations that strengthen instructional quality and learner success.
  • Ensure accessibility, inclusivity, and learner-centered design principles are embedded throughout the curriculum.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement (20%)

  • Serve as TKH Liaison at convenings, learning communities, and stakeholder events to promote TKH programs and share innovation
  • Support the standardization of all TKH curricula for fellowship and custom programs by partnering with industry, teachers, volunteers, and consultants to create innovative content and ensure the curriculum remains relevant and aligned with labor market needs.
  • Support the development of authentic workplace simulations, project-based learning experiences, and employer-informed assessments.
  • Facilitate user testing and feedback sessions with employers and learners to strengthen curriculum effectiveness.
  • Oversee the functionality, usability, and effectiveness of the learning management system for cross-functional use from recruitment through graduation.
  • Collaborate with Product and Technology teams on digital learning tools, LMS enhancements, and learner experience improvements.
Qualifications

Required:
  • 5–8+ years of experience designing and managing learning experiences, workforce training programs, or educational products.
  • Experience leading instructional design projects from concept through implementation.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theory, project-based learning, and learner-centered design.
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience in workforce development, career-connected learning, or technology training programs.
  • Experience with UX research, learner research, or user testing methodologies.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, etc.).
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled learning tools and emerging educational technologies.
  • Experience managing instructional designers, curriculum developers, or content creators.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $105,000 - $120,000 per year (New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range, depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role)

Hybrid Work at TKH

All full-time staff are expected to come into a TKH office or the field (community and industry events, including conferences or travel for work) 1-2 days per week, and the Leadership Team will be encouraged to come into a TKH office at least two times per week. There will be one consistent team day a week that will vary by team. Please note that there are some roles that may require being on-site more based on the job responsibilities.

In addition to the 1 team day, there will be weeks when the expectation is 2 days/week based on required meetings. These may include all staff meetings, department stepbacks, professional development, retreats, events, or other purposeful reasons, as requested by your supervisor or team lead.
