Job Description

Position Summary:

Prestige Trucking Insurance is seeking a Director of Insurance Operations & Carrier Relationships to connect our sales, service, underwriting, compliance, training, and leadership teams. This person will evaluate how work moves across departments, strengthen our processes and carrier relationships, and turn performance data into clear actions that improve client service and drive growth.

The ideal candidate combines deep trucking insurance knowledge with strong operational leadership. They can work directly with agents and department leaders, teach complex insurance topics clearly, and hold teams accountable to measurable standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operations and Process Improvement:

  • Meet regularly with every department to understand its responsibilities, challenges, handoffs, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review, update, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), workflows, checklists, and quality controls.
  • Identify gaps between departments and establish clear ownership, escalation paths, and follow-up procedures.
  • Work with department leaders to improve efficiency, consistency, accuracy, and the client experience.
  • Monitor whether new processes are being followed and adjust them based on results.

Performance, Reporting, and Budgets:

  • Establish meaningful key performance indicators (KPIs) for each department, including production, conversion, retention, service turnaround times, quality, and carrier-related performance.
  • Require and review monthly reports from department leaders covering results, work in progress, challenges, and planned actions.
  • Prepare a monthly executive report for the CEO that connects department performance to company goals and recommends specific improvements.
  • Analyze staffing needs, compensation data, departmental expenses, and budgets; present findings and recommendations to leadership.
  • Build dashboards and other measurable tools that help managers coach their teams and track progress.

Carrier and Agent Relationships:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with insurance carriers, MGAs, and agency partners.
  • Serve as a point of coordination for carrier expectations, underwriting guidelines, operational concerns, and growth opportunities.
  • Help agents understand carrier appetite, eligibility requirements, policy terms, and submission standards.
  • Partner with leadership to strengthen carrier performance, expand opportunities, and support profitable revenue growth.

Training and Team Development:

  • Build and oversee a structured training program for new hires, agents, managers, and service teams.
  • Lead or coordinate training on trucking insurance fundamentals, selling trucking insurance, carrier guidelines, reading and explaining policies, and other relevant trucking coverage topics.
  • Train teams on updated SOPs, workflows, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Identify skill gaps through performance results and quality reviews, then develop targeted coaching and training.
  • Help managers create a professional, collaborative culture built on clear expectations and strong working relationships.

Growth and Leadership:

  • Partner with sales and department leaders to remove obstacles to production and improve the client journey from prospect to renewal.
  • Recommend initiatives that increase revenue, improve retention, and strengthen carrier and agent relationships.
  • Lead cross-department projects from initial analysis through implementation and measurement.
  • Bring departments together around shared goals while holding each team accountable for its responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Trucking & Commercial Insurance Knowledge — Possesses deep knowledge of trucking and transportation insurance, including coverage lines, carrier appetite, underwriting guidelines, and policy language, and can explain complex insurance topics clearly to agents and staff.
  • Operational Leadership & Process Improvement Skills — Able to evaluate how work moves across departments, design and implement SOPs, workflows, and quality controls, and drive adoption through consistent follow-up and measurement.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills — Interprets production data, KPIs, budgets, and operational reports to identify trends, diagnose problems, and turn findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Carrier & Partner Relationship Management — Builds and sustains trusted relationships with carriers, MGAs, and agency partners, balancing carrier expectations with the company’s service and growth objectives.
  • Training & Coaching Abilities — Designs and delivers structured training, identifies skill gaps, and coaches managers and teams to meet clear, measurable performance standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Abilities — Brings departments together around shared goals, aligns priorities across teams, and holds each department accountable for its responsibilities, handoffs, and results.
  • Communication & Relationship-Building Skills — Communicates clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing, with executives, managers, agents, service teams, and carrier representatives.
  • Integrity & Accountability — Consistently demonstrates a high level of professional integrity, ethical conduct, and personal accountability in all internal, client, and carrier interactions.
  • Confidentiality Knowledge & Practice — Maintains the highest degree of confidentiality when handling client, carrier, compensation, budget, and organizational information.
  • Organizational & Time Management Skills — Capable of leading multiple cross-department initiatives simultaneously with minimal guidance, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accuracy and prioritization.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Significant experience in commercial insurance, with strong knowledge of trucking and transportation insurance.
  • Experience leading insurance operations, carrier relationships, sales teams, or cross-department improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to interpret underwriting guidelines, policy language, production data, and operational reports.
  • Proven experience creating or improving SOPs, workflows, KPIs, and training programs.
  • Strong communication, coaching, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with executives, managers, agents, service teams, and carrier representatives.
  • Active insurance license appropriate for the position, or the ability to obtain one as required.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a multi-department insurance agency, MGA, or brokerage environment.
  • Proficiency with agency management systems, CRM platforms, and reporting or dashboard tools.
  • Professional insurance designations such as CIC, CPCU, or similar.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Requires extended periods of sitting, computer use, and handling digital documents, along with clear communication via phone and video.
  • Professional office work setting with standard office equipment and moderate noise levels.
  • Fast-paced environment with occasional extended hours during month-end reporting, renewal cycles, or major process rollouts.
  • Occasional travel may be required for carrier meetings, industry events, and conferences.
  • Requires handling confidential client, carrier, compensation, and organizational information in compliance with privacy and legal standards.
