Job Description
General Purpose:
The Director of Assimilation & Volunteer Engagement provides leadership, vision, and oversight for all entry points into the life of the church. This role exists to help individuals move from first-time guests to fully engaged ministry partners through clear, intentional, and relational pathways.
This includes oversight of the ministry partner approval process and leadership of CalvaryPSL’s Guest Experiences, ensuring every individual feels welcome, connected, and integrated in the church’s mission and vision.
Essential Job Functions:
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, and develop volunteers and staff serving in Next Steps environments
- Build and lead teams that create welcoming, clear, and effective pathways for engagement
- Foster a culture of hospitality, clarity, and relational connection
- Equip team members to guide individuals through the next steps with excellence
Guest Experiences
- Oversee the end-to-end discipleship environment, ensuring every touchpoint—from first-time guest interactions to ongoing spiritual formation—creates a welcoming, engaging, and Christ-centered experience.
- Design and implement intentional guest experiences that help individuals feel seen, valued, and connected from the moment they arrive, including coordination of welcome teams, follow-up processes, and clear next steps into discipleship pathways.
- Collaborate with ministry leaders and volunteers to create environments that remove barriers to connection and foster a culture of belonging, spiritual growth, and authentic community.
- Develop systems to effectively track, engage, and disciple guests and attendees, ensuring no one falls through the cracks and that each person has a clear path toward deeper involvement.
- Train and equip teams to carry a heart for hospitality and discipleship, emphasizing excellence, warmth, and intentionality in every guest interaction.
- Continuously evaluate and refine the guest and discipleship experience through feedback, data, and observation to ensure alignment with the church’s mission and vision.
Next Steps Pathway Oversight
- Design, implement, and continuously improve the church’s Next Steps pathway
- Ensure clear and effective processes from first-time guest to engaged ministry partner
- Monitor and evaluate engagement metrics to improve connection and retention
- Collaborate with Guest Experiences to ensure seamless handoff from first visit to next steps
Ministry Partner Process
- Oversee the ministry partner (membership) approval process
- Ensure all candidates understand the church’s doctrine, values, and expectations
- Coordinate application review, interviews (if applicable), and approval systems
- Maintain accurate records and ensure timely communication throughout the process
Discover Calvary Leadership
- Oversee and lead “Discover Calvary” classes or experiences
- Ensure content clearly communicates the church’s vision, beliefs, structure, and opportunities
- Recruit and develop facilitators and speakers for Discover Calvary
- Continuously refine the experience to increase engagement and clarity
Discipleship Integration
- Partner with the Senior Director of Discipleship to align Next Steps with the overall discipleship pathway
- Connect individuals to groups, classes, serving opportunities, and ministries
- Ensure a smooth transition from initial engagement into deeper discipleship environments
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with other departments to ensure alignment across ministries
- Work with Creative Arts and Communications to promote Next Steps opportunities
- Ensure clear, consistent communication across all Next Steps touch points
Budget & Resource Oversight
- Assist in developing and managing the Next Steps budget in coordination with the Senior Director of Discipleship
- Monitor expenditures and ensure responsible stewardship of resources
- Allocate resources for classes, materials, and events
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Spiritual & Character Qualifications
- A mature follower of Jesus Christ with a passion for helping people connect and grow
- Alignment with the doctrine, values, and culture of the church
- Servant-hearted leadership, relational warmth, and strong interpersonal skills
- Active participation in the life of the church
Professional Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in ministry leadership, discipleship, or guest engagement
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage systems effectively
- Experience designing processes, pathways, or onboarding systems preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and relational skills
- Ability to manage details while maintaining a relational approach
What You Are Required to Know:
- We are an EEO employer.
- This is a full-time (40 hours/week) salary-exempt position.
- This role requires presence during weekend services, Discover Calvary classes, Next Steps events, and key church gatherings, along with regular office hours and team meetings.
