Director of Out-of-School Time, Camps and Youth Enrichment in Oskaloosa, Iowa at Mahaska County YMCA

This is not a traditional afterschool coordinator role. We are seeking a creative youth-development leader who can operate strong programs today while building what children, teens and families in Mahaska County need next.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Lead and grow afterschool, school-out-day, holiday break, summer camp and specialty camp programming.

Create age-appropriate experiences for younger elementary, upper elementary, preteen and teen participants - not one program for every age.

Build engaging enrichment around interests such as STEM, arts, music, sports, wellness, outdoor exploration, service, leadership, life skills and career exposure.

Use youth voice, family feedback, enrollment data and community needs to identify gaps and pilot new programs.

Develop school, business, college and community partnerships that bring new people, skills and experiences to young people.

Recruit, train, coach and develop staff who see themselves as youth-development professionals, not simply program supervisors.

Ensure excellent child safety, program quality, licensing compliance, family communication and consistent operating practices.

Manage program budgets, staffing models, enrollment, retention and capacity with both mission impact and sustainability in mind.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
A creative builder who can turn ideas into well-organized, safe and sustainable programs.

Strong experience working with school-age youth; afterschool, camp, recreation, education or youth-development experience strongly preferred.

Demonstrated leadership, staff supervision, relationship-building and program-development skills.

Someone who listens to children and families, welcomes experimentation and is willing to change programs when something is not working.

Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred; equivalent education and relevant experience will be considered.

Ability to meet applicable YMCA, Iowa licensing, background screening and child-safety requirements.
