Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Location: Joint Base Andrews (JBA), MD or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), Washington, D.C.

Position Type: Full time (40 hours/week), hourly.

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Education Level: High School diploma or equivalency is required. LPN Certificate and Licensure is required.

Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) at Joint Base Andrews (JBA) MD or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), in Washington, D.C. to perform patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Performs patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitors and records are appropriate physiological measurements.
  • Orients new patients to the clinic/hospital environment.
  • Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
  • Provides individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative healthcare and health maintenance.
  • Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures.
  • Performs appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and clinical procedures.
  • Records treatment, procedure rendered and observed effects.
  • Identifies and records patient problems and appropriately notifies provider/nursing Team of observations.
  • Prepares and administers medications in accordance with scope of practice and training.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies and performs basic life support measures.
  • Performs appropriate portions of physical examinations including age-appropriate physical measurements.
  • Adheres to infection control procedures, including use of personal protective equipment, waste disposal and aseptic techniques.
  • Performs central sterile supply duties.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly assembled, operates, cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensure preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.
  • Performs medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs.
  • Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.
  • Prepares and submits administrative reports.
  • Participate in training and continuing education programs for new procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with coworkers, families, peers, and other team members.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Correctly utilize and/or apply; medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics and legal concepts, clinical procedures and patient care.
  • Must be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.

Education:

  • Graduation from the State Board of Nursing-approved LPN training program or completion of equivalent military training that permits sitting for the State licensure examination.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an LPN performing hands-on patient care in the outpatient clinical setting within the past two (2) years.
  • Current, active and unrestricted LPN License issued within U.S. Jurisdiction.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
  • National certification in Ambulatory Care Nursing.

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

  • The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this position supports 24/7 operations which may require work to be conducted at night and on weekends.

Travel:

  • As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commuting is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to use an elevator or walk up & down stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor office or outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
  • Must be a Citizen of the United States of America.
  • Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
