Job Description

Medical Director, Clinical Partnerships

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Medical Director, Clinical Partnerships based in the United States.

This is a high-impact physician leadership role focused on strengthening clinical partnerships and physician engagement within a rapidly scaling specialty care environment. The position serves as the primary physician voice in peer-to-peer conversations with prescribing providers and external healthcare stakeholders. You will help shape clinical protocols, drug-list strategy, and governance processes across specialty therapies. The role combines clinical judgment, strategic leadership, and external relationship management rather than traditional patient care. You will collaborate closely with Clinical Strategy & Affairs, Operations, Sales, Client Success, Marketing, and executive leadership. As the organization expands its specialty care partnerships, your clinical expertise will play an increasingly important role in shaping programs, partnerships, and patient outcomes.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead peer-to-peer conversations with prescribing physicians to support coordinated care, address clinical and safety concerns, and improve patient engagement.
  • Own the physician component of the provider escalation workflow, providing timely clinical guidance and resolving objections related to clinical policies and patient care.
  • Build strong credibility with external prescribers through a deep understanding of clinical programs, protocols, and treatment strategies.
  • Provide physician-level oversight and sign-off for clinical protocols, drug-list decisions, and related clinical policies.
  • Lead the Clinical Governance Committee and guide P&T-style decision-making as programs expand across clients and therapeutic areas.
  • Direct the clinical strategy for specialty and preferred drug list programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with medical societies, physician groups, clinical leaders, patient advocacy organizations, and other relevant healthcare institutions.
  • Represent the organization's clinical perspective in discussions with manufacturers, specialty pharmacies, infusion centers, health plans, and other strategic partners.
  • Serve as a trusted clinical representative in high-level manufacturer and health plan partnership discussions.
  • Support expansion into new specialty and therapeutic areas by providing recognized clinical expertise and strategic guidance.
  • Partner with Clinical Strategy & Affairs to translate clinical judgment into scalable operational policies and workflows.
  • Establish consistent clinical standards for protocol and drug-list decisions while reducing delays and reliance on non-physician leadership.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Client Success, Sales, Marketing, and Manufacturer Relations to turn clinical insights into stronger provider experiences and program design.
  • Advise executive leadership on clinical trends, stakeholder priorities, and emerging opportunities across the provider community.

Requirements:

  • MD or DO degree with an active, unrestricted U.S. medical license; residency training required and board certification preferred.
  • At least 5 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Experience working effectively in non-patient-facing, cross-functional environments.
  • Ability to operate independently, exercise sound clinical judgment, and help establish a growing clinical function.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with demonstrated ability to lead credible physician-to-physician conversations with prescribing providers.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, or approving clinical protocols, formularies, drug lists, or P&T-style decisions.
  • Confidence representing clinical positions and recommendations to external stakeholders, including manufacturers, specialty pharmacies, health plans, or other healthcare organizations.
  • Experience with specialty pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, or infusion-administered therapies is preferred.
  • Background in managed care, utilization management, or medical-necessity assessment is a plus.
  • Prior experience working with health plans, PBMs, manufacturers, or other healthcare partners is advantageous.
  • Experience establishing a clinical function, governance process, or physician leadership capability from the ground up is highly valued.

Benefits:

  • Competitive base compensation of $185,000–$250,000, with individual compensation determined by experience, location, internal equity, and other business considerations.
  • Equity/stock options as part of the overall compensation package.
  • Fully remote position within the United States.
  • Opportunity to serve as a foundational physician leader in a rapidly growing specialty care organization.
  • High-visibility role combining clinical leadership, strategic decision-making, and external healthcare partnerships.
  • Opportunity to influence clinical governance, specialty drug strategy, provider engagement, and program development.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with clinical, operational, commercial, and executive teams.
  • Opportunity to help build and shape a clinical function from the ground up.
  • Mission-driven environment focused on improving access, affordability, and quality of specialty care.
