TOWN OF NEW CANAAN
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT to the
FIRE CHIEF and FIRE MARSHAL
The Town of New Canaan is seeking applicants for an Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal. This position provides comprehensive administrative, organizational, and clerical support to the Fire Department leadership and assists in the efficient operation of the Fire Prevention and Fire Marshal functions. This position serves as a key administrative liaison between the Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, Fire Commission, department personnel, municipal officials, residents, businesses, and the general public.
Responsibilities include managing schedules and calendars, preparing correspondence and reports, maintaining confidential records and files, processing permits and applications, coordinating meetings and inspections, responding to inquiries, and assisting with departmental administrative and financial functions. The position requires a high degree of professionalism, discretion, accuracy, organization, and the ability to handle sensitive information.
Qualifications required would generally be acquired with a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of administrative, customer service and fiscal experience in a similar type of high-profile environment; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training. Required skills: computer literate with knowledge of Word, Excel and Publisher; strong ability to multi-task; able to work with minimal supervision; self-reliant. Experience as an Office Administrator in a Fire Department is preferred. Knowledge of Munis Software a plus.
