About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing team and direct professional services within a collaborative, interdisciplinary rehabilitation model for our Covington, LA programs.

In this role, you will provide critical clinical leadership and oversight to ensure the highest standards of health, medical stability, and overall wellness for our residential clients. Working closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians, and direct care staff, you will oversee care plans for individuals recovering from catastrophic injuries and complex conditions—helping them regain independence and achieve their rehabilitation goals.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Medical Oversight

  • Direct overall nursing care activities and medical oversight to address routine and acute client needs promptly.
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments, analyze diagnostic data, and establish evidence-based plans of care.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to set, monitor, and adjust client rehabilitation goals.
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate the clinical practice of LPNs and direct care nursing staff.
  • Oversee comprehensive medical documentation, including care plans, progress notes, and medication administration records.
  • Assist with client admissions and discharge planning, ensuring families and outpatient caregivers are thoroughly educated.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide clinical guidance and emergency oversight outside standard business hours.

Staff Development & Education

  • Teach and certify direct care staff through Certified Medication Assistance (CMA) training programs.
  • Lead orientation and ongoing staff training on critical health and medical topics.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and clinical consultant for nurses and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Act as an educational resource for clients, families, and external provider teams.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or related clinical discipline preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in clinical leadership, advanced nursing practice, or nursing management.
  • Specialty Experience: Background in rehabilitation care for catastrophically or chronically ill/injured individuals—specifically brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI)—is highly preferred.
  • Licensure & Compliance: Active RN license in good standing. Must strictly comply with state regulations and professional nursing standards.
  • Operational Requirements: Valid driver’s license with a record of responsible driving and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
