Job Description

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.

We are looking for a Part-time 2nd Shift Bilingual Human Resource Assistant I to provide Provides day-to-day Human Resources support in a fast-paced, unionized manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include payroll and timekeeping support, attendance tracking, employee records, recruiting and onboarding, new-hire orientation, employee and labor relations support, grievance follow-up, scheduling, reporting, training coordination, and confidential personnel administration. The position requires strong organization, attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and effective communication with employees, supervisors, managers, and union representatives. Must be proficient with ADP/eTime and able to work independently while escalating complex employee relations matters to the Human Resources Manager at at our Northwest Packing plant in Vancouver, WA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responds to routine inquiries regarding Human Resources, payroll, timekeeping, attendance, benefits, and company policies, and directs employees to appropriate resources when needed.
  • Compiles information and prepares and processes a wide variety of personnel actions and HR documentation containing confidential and sensitive employee information.
  • Provides confidential Human Resources support to employees, supervisors, department managers, and the Human Resources Manager.
  • Troubleshoots and investigates employee concerns, attendance issues, payroll/timekeeping discrepancies, and grievances before escalating more complex matters to the Human Resources Manager.
  • Works effectively within a unionized environment and assists with employee and labor relations matters, including interpretation and administration of applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or advanced coursework in human resources preferred; or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the position.
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish and able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with employees, supervisors, managers, and union representatives.
  • Experience using ADP and ADP eTime/timekeeping systems is required, paired with a comprehensive knowledge of standard HR policies, state and federal compliance, internal payroll/attendance operations, and specific processes tailored to a union workforce (including collective bargaining agreements, grievance procedures, and seniority practices).
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), strong data entry and 10-key proficiency, and a solid knowledge of standard office administration practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
