Job Description
The Service Technician - Dielectric is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of dielectric service trucks, aerial lift equipment, man-lifts, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and related fleet assets. This position ensures all equipment is maintained in a safe, reliable, and compliant condition to support field operations and customer service activities. The technician performs preventative maintenance, repairs, equipment testing, and documentation while adhering to company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on dielectric service trucks, aerial devices, man-lifts, and related equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and diesel engine systems.
- Inspect equipment to identify wear, damage, safety concerns, and maintenance needs.
- Perform repairs on boom lifts, outriggers, hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves, and control systems.
- Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure compliance with DOT, ANSI, OSHA, and company standards.
- Maintain dielectric service equipment, generators, compressors, and supporting field equipment.
- Complete work orders, maintenance records, inspections, and repair documentation accurately and timely.
- Assist with annual inspections and certification requirements for aerial lift equipment.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and component replacement as required.
- Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and consumable supplies.
- Respond to field service calls and emergency equipment breakdowns.
- Operate service vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and participate in safety meetings and training.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in heavy equipment, fleet maintenance, diesel mechanics, or aerial lift equipment repair.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diesel systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment using diagnostic tools and manuals.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
- ASE Certifications.
- Experience with Altec, Versalift, Terex, Elliott, or other aerial equipment manufacturers.
- Knowledge of dielectric industry equipment and utility fleet operations.
- Hydraulic certification or specialized equipment training.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work at heights and around moving equipment.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and heavy machinery.
Work Environment
- Shop and field service environment.
- Exposure to grease, oil, chemicals, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Occasional overtime, after-hours service calls, and travel may be required.
