Job Description:
The City of Chesapeake is seeking a knowledgeable and customer focused Client Technology Analyst II, Public Safety to provide advanced desktop and client systems support for the Chesapeake Fire Department. As a Client Technology Analyst II, Public Safety, you will ensure Fire personnel have the reliable technology they need to protect and serve the community. This position primarily supports Fire Department operations and will occasionally provide technical assistance to the Police Department and other Public Safety partners as operational needs require.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyze customer requests for new or enhanced technology solutions and recommend appropriate hardware, software, and system improvements.
  • Provide day to day technical support for desktop computers, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and other technology used throughout the Fire Department.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, maintain, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, operating systems, and peripheral devices.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, application, and connectivity issues while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Provide orientation, training, and ongoing technical assistance to Firefighters/EMTs and administrative staff on new and existing technology.
  • Perform local system administration, including creating and managing user accounts, assigning permissions, resetting passwords, and maintaining system security.
  • Support LAN/WAN connectivity and assist with basic network administration and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in technology projects involving system deployments, upgrades, migrations, and specialized initiatives that support Fire Department operations.
  • Occasionally provide technical support to the Police Department and other Public Safety agencies as operational needs require.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, technology asset tracking, technical documentation, and system configurations.
  • Assist with budgeting, technology planning, equipment procurement, and preparation of technical specifications for new systems.
  • Research emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and security.
  • Prepare reports, conduct technical studies, and document system procedures and best practices.
  • Attend staff meetings, technical training, and professional development opportunities to remain current on evolving technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Experience supporting desktop computer systems, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and Microsoft Windows environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, desktop technologies, and current Microsoft products.
  • Experience with LAN/WAN technologies, networking concepts, and client server computing environments.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience planning technology projects, documenting infrastructure, and maintaining accurate technical documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to users with varying levels of technical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, evaluate information, and develop practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of networking and distributed computing concepts, including network routing, client server architecture, and network file systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure while providing outstanding customer service in a mission critical environment.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-terms department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

As such, and in compliance with federal regulations and guidelines, City of Chesapeake Information Technology staff and contractors must receive a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) criminal background clearance and may require a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) criminal background clearance prior to employment and annually thereafter while employed or under contract with the City of Chesapeake. Automatic disqualifiers related to the CJIS and PREA criminal background checks apply, including but not limited to, US Citizenship and/or minimum ten (10) years US Residency requirements.
