Job Description

Senior GL Accountant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior GL Accountant based in United States.

Join a fast-growing global technology organization where you will play a key role in strengthening financial operations across multiple entities. As a Senior GL Accountant, you will own critical accounting processes, including month-end close, statutory reporting, reconciliations, and audit readiness. You will work in a highly collaborative remote environment, partnering with finance teams across different regions and functions. The role offers the opportunity to improve processes, enhance controls, and bring clarity to complex multi-entity accounting operations. You will contribute to scalable financial practices while supporting business growth through accurate and reliable reporting. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys ownership, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities:

The Senior GL Accountant will be responsible for managing core accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and improving accounting processes within a global, multi-entity environment. The role requires strong ownership of close activities, statutory compliance, stakeholder collaboration, and operational excellence.

  • Own month-end close activities for assigned entities, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, fixed asset accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare German local GAAP (HGB) financial statements, including supporting documentation, notes preparation, asset schedules, and audit-ready reporting packages.
  • Support IFRS reporting requirements and statutory audits by preparing documentation, responding to auditor requests, and ensuring strong financial controls.
  • Maintain and improve close processes, including calendars, checklists, workflows, and documentation to ensure smooth collaboration across global teams.
  • Act as a subject matter resource for complex general ledger topics, non-standard transactions, and accounting-related questions.
  • Strengthen accounting controls by improving reconciliations, procedures, and supporting documentation while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage accounting system administration tasks, including workflows, permissions, and first-level issue resolution for relevant tools.
  • Partner with AP, Payroll, FP&A, Tax, and other cross-functional teams to streamline processes and reduce manual effort.
  • Support automation and process improvement initiatives that increase efficiency and scalability within the finance function.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional with strong technical expertise in general ledger accounting, statutory reporting, and financial controls. You should be comfortable working independently in a remote, international environment while collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

  • Significant experience managing end-to-end GL accounting activities, including month-end close and account reconciliations within a corporate environment.
  • Hands-on experience preparing German HGB financial statements, including notes (Anhang), and supporting statutory audits.
  • Professional fluency in German and English, both written and spoken, with the ability to manage local accounting topics and collaborate globally.
  • Practical experience with IFRS reporting packages, audit preparation, financial controls, and maintaining clear documentation trails.
  • Strong ERP experience, preferably with NetSuite, along with familiarity managing accounting workflows and close management tools such as FloQast.
  • Experience working with multi-entity and multi-currency accounting environments, ideally within an international or high-growth organization.
  • Ability to analyze accounting issues, document conclusions, and provide practical solutions to stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines, prioritize multiple initiatives, and maintain attention to detail.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for process improvement, automation, and creating scalable accounting practices.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience administering procurement or spend management tools, including workflow troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with European accounting requirements and local compliance practices.
  • Previous experience supporting accounting automation, reconciliation improvements, or finance transformation projects.
Benefits:

The company offers a comprehensive rewards package designed to support employees’ wellbeing, professional growth, and flexibility.

  • Competitive compensation package with location-based salary ranges and potential equity participation.
  • Remote-first work environment with flexible working arrangements and support for home office or coworking needs.
  • Flexible time off policies designed to encourage rest, balance, and sustainable performance.
  • Health and wellbeing benefits, including locally tailored healthcare options and global mental health support programs.
  • Lifestyle spending benefits that support personal wellbeing, family needs, hobbies, learning, and financial wellness.
  • Retirement and pension plans, with company contributions where applicable.
  • Life and disability insurance benefits depending on location.
  • Annual opportunities for professional development, including funding for courses, certifications, and learning resources.
  • Team connection initiatives, including company gatherings, offsites, and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues globally.
  • Inclusive, collaborative culture focused on innovation, ownership, and meaningful impact.
