Job Description: Commercial Roofing Estimator

Estimating Department | Exempt (Salaried)

Position Purpose & Objectives

The Estimator is responsible for bidding and selling roofing and waterproofing projects — preparing accurate, timely estimates, developing and maintaining strategic relationships, and collecting all data needed for accurate estimating.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare accurate, competitive proposals and contracts

Review and understand scope of work and project specificationsAnalyze blueprints, specifications, and documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimatesCompute cost factors and prepare estimates for planning, bidding, and vendor/subcontractor selectionCreate and update projects in the estimating system, bid calendar, and document uploadsDevelop labor estimates for potential jobs

Work closely with drafting and project management on required estimating servicesApply established labor and material markups for overhead and profitProvide job packets to foremen to support safety, HazCom, specification, and labor expectationsDevelop and maintain strategic relationships

Consult with clients, vendors, and manufacturers to formulate estimates and resolve issuesPrepare bid documents and customer-facing materials in a timely mannerIdentify material cost trends and pursue potential new businessTrack, manage, and debrief projects

Analyze completed projects to compare estimated vs. actual costs and identify discrepanciesMaintain accurate, organized files and follow up on outstanding estimatesProcess manufacturer warranties and assist production in scheduling and coordinating jobsCore Competencies

Essential

High school diploma or equivalentEnglish fluency

OSHA 10-hour cardValid driver's licenseAbility to use/learn business technologyPreferred

Roofing industry experienceBilingual fluencyOSHA 30-hour cardFamiliarity with local building codesExperience with estimating programsPhysical Requirements

This role requires the ability to work both in an office setting and on active job sites, including occasional climbing of ladders and walking on roofs and uneven surfaces, along with the ability to lift, carry, and transport materials or equipment up to 50 lbs.
