Senior Account Manager - Middle Market Employee Health & Benefits: Self-Funding Expert

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Account Manager - Middle Market Employee Health & Benefits: Self-Funding Expert based in the United States.

This role is focused on delivering strategic employee health and benefits solutions to middle-market clients, with particular expertise in self-funded programs.
You will serve as a trusted client partner, developing customized service strategies based on each organization's needs and business objectives.
The position combines relationship management, benefits expertise, financial analysis, contract negotiation, and renewal strategy.
You will lead client discussions, develop proposals and presentations, and help organizations navigate complex funding and coverage decisions.
The role also involves reviewing work, guiding colleagues, and contributing to a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
You will have opportunities to work directly with clients while supporting long-term account growth and service excellence.
This is a full-time remote opportunity with flexibility to work from home or an office and occasional travel for client meetings.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and implement customized service plans that address client objectives, employee benefits needs, and business priorities.

  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with middle-market clients through proactive communication and consultative service.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of each client's business, workforce, benefits strategy, and financial considerations.

  • Provide expertise on employee health and benefits programs, including self-funded arrangements and various funding mechanisms.

  • Negotiate contracts and coverage terms with carriers, providers, and other relevant partners.

  • Lead renewal meetings and manage the renewal process from analysis through implementation.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations for prospects, clients, and open enrollment meetings.

  • Create detailed financial and benefits analyses to support client recommendations and strategic decisions.

  • Interpret complex self-funded policies and explain financial and coverage implications to clients and internal stakeholders.

  • Review the accuracy and quality of work completed by colleagues on projects and client deliverables.

  • Guide and support team members in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a collaborative and positive working culture.

  • Manage multiple client priorities, deadlines, proposals, renewals, and deliverables effectively.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and identify opportunities to improve client outcomes and service delivery.

  • Travel periodically for client meetings and other business needs when required.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of relevant insurance experience, particularly within employee benefits, applicable insurance products and lines, funding mechanisms, and benefits strategies.

  • Strong financial acumen and demonstrated ability to interpret complex self-funded health and benefits policies.

  • Proven experience negotiating contracts, leading renewal meetings, and presenting during open enrollment.

  • Strong analytical capabilities, with experience creating detailed analyses and client-facing presentations.

  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as experience navigating agency management systems.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and proactively resolve client and operational challenges.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility and maintain productive relationships with clients and colleagues.

  • Experience reviewing others' work and providing guidance or direction within a high-energy team environment.

  • Life & Health insurance license preferred, or willingness and ability to obtain one after joining.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field is preferred.

  • Professional benefits or insurance designation such as GBA, CEBS, VBS, or a comparable credential is a plus.

  • Experience with Applied Epic or a similar agency management system is advantageous.

  • Willingness to travel for client meetings as needed.
