Construction Site Manager in Aurora, Illinois at Habitat for Humanity of Northern FO

Position Summary: The Construction Site Manager provides leadership, technical expertise, and training across Habitat for Humanity construction sites. This role supports construction operations by mentoring site supervisors and crew leads, implementing construction and safety standards, coordinating schedules and resources, and ensuring consistent quality across projects. The position requires strong residential construction experience, problem-solving ability, and a willingness to provide hands-on field support, including serving as backup to Site Supervisors. The role regularly interacts with volunteers, sponsors, partner families, inspectors, and trade partners to ensure successful project completion and a positive Habitat experience.

Reports To: Construction Manager

Hours: Full-time, 40-45 hours per week – typical schedule is Monday – Friday (Some Saturdays required when covering site supervisor PTO).

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Construction Operations

· Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to Site Supervisors and Crew Leads to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent project execution.

· Develop and deliver training on construction methods, volunteer engagement, job site leadership, safety practices, and Habitat standards.

· Implement and enforce construction standards, quality expectations, building codes, and safety policies.

· Coach Site Supervisors on prioritization, resource allocation, problem-solving, and resolution of field challenges that may impact schedule or quality.

· Coordinate with workforce development programs and external training partners.

· Serve as backup to Site Supervisors as needed to ensure continuity of site operations.

· Monitor and coordinate project schedules to identify and resolve conflicts, constraints, and resource needs.

· Collaborate with Construction Coordinators and Site Supervisors to develop and maintain project schedules.

· Coordinate trade contractors, inspections, and permit activities across multiple construction sites.

· Ensure sites are prepared for volunteers, sponsors, trade partners, and inspections, and communicate schedule and work-plan updates to relevant stakeholders.

Safety and Quality Assurance

· Monitor workmanship, construction quality, and jobsite safety; identify deficiencies and address corrective actions and training needs.

· Review work at key project milestones and ensure quality and readiness for inspections.

· Develop and maintain quality-control procedures and documentation to promote consistency across projects.

· Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork through training, coaching, and process improvement.

· Represent Habitat professionally with volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community stakeholders.

· Communicate Habitat's mission, programs, and construction processes while fostering positive relationships with volunteers, donors, sponsors, and trade partners.

· Collaborate with Habitat staff to develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures.

· Support partner families by communicating construction standards and addressing warranty concerns.

· Other duties may be assigned to support Habitat for Humanity’s mission and construction program.

Minimum Requirements

· Five to seven years of residential construction experience, including knowledge of all phases of construction.· Ability to independently perform and demonstrate residential construction tasks while coaching staff, volunteers, and partner families in a safe and effective manner.· Demonstrated leadership experience supervising staff, crews, volunteers, or subcontractors.· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.· Working knowledge of residential building codes, construction methods, and jobsite safety practices.· Strong leadership, communication, organizational, delegation, and problem-solving skills. · Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, donors, sponsors, partner families, staff, and trade partners.· Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.

· Ten or more years of experience managing multiple construction projects or job sites simultaneously.· Five to ten years of experience training, mentoring, and developing construction staff.· OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.· Experience operating construction equipment, including forklifts, skid steers (Bobcat), and towing trailers.· Experience working with volunteers, workforce development programs, or nonprofit construction organizations.

· Regular travel between construction sites, warehouses, and Habitat facilities using a personal vehicle.

· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain, ladders, scaffolding, foundations, and roofs.

. Ability to perform physically demanding construction activities and participate in occasional team lifting and movement of equipment weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
