About the Role
The Youth Counselor at Lone Mountain Ranch helps create unforgettable outdoor adventures for children participating in the Lone Mountain Rangers program. Working with guests ages 3–14, this role combines hospitality, leadership, outdoor recreation, and education in a fun and energetic Ranch environment.
Youth Counselors lead activities ranging from horseback riding and archery to hiking, arts and crafts, high ropes, and outdoor games while helping ensure every child feels safe, included, engaged, and excited throughout their experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with kids, loves the outdoors, and brings a positive and enthusiastic attitude to everything they do.
What You’ll Do- Lead and supervise a variety of youth activities including horseback riding, archery, hiking, arts and crafts, outdoor games, nature exploration, and high ropes
- Create a fun, safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children of varying ages
- Teach participants about Montana history, wildlife, flora, and outdoor recreation in an interactive way
- Communicate activity instructions and safety expectations clearly and confidently
- Support positive behavior and help foster respect for fellow participants, staff, and Ranch property
- Assist with activity setup, cleanup, organization, and daily program operations
- Communicate professionally with parents, guests, and fellow Ranch team members
- Respond calmly and professionally to changing situations or emergencies
- Help create memorable guest experiences for children and families visiting the Ranch
- Support Ranch events and other guest activities as needed
- Previous experience working with children, camps, youth programs, recreation programs, or hospitality preferred
- Positive, energetic, and outgoing personality with a passion for working with kids
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain during the season
- Lifeguard certification and horse experience are a plus
- Creative mindset with the ability to make activities fun, engaging, and age-appropriate
- Ability to remain active throughout the workday, including standing, walking, hiking, lifting, and leading activities
- Flexible schedule availability, including weekends and holidays
