Description:

The Democracy and Security Network at the German Marshall Fund is seeking a program coordinator to support research and programming at the intersection of democratic backsliding and the military.

Job Summary:

As an essential member of GMF’s Democracy and Security Network, the Program Coordinator will support the team with essential operational, research, outreach, and administrative activities. Specifically, this role will assist with the day-to-day logistics of the DSN team’s programming related to the military and democratic backsliding in the U.S. and Europe, including partner coordination, domestic and international event planning, meeting scheduling, information management, external messaging, and more. In addition to administrative support, this role will also assist on research projects as necessary. Candidates should be organized, with strong attention to detail, and be able to work independently and complete tasks quickly without sacrificing quality and accuracy.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Assist in planning activities associated with GMF’s global programming related to the military and democratic backsliding in the United States and Europe.

· Plan logistics of expert convenings, including coalition working group meetings, private roundtables, and public events in Washington, DC, abroad, and online

· Handle administrative duties for the team, including scheduling internal and external meetings, drafting correspondence, and facilitating outreach to external partners and stakeholders

· Assist in the correspondence, scheduling, notetaking, recordkeeping, grant reporting, and other planning and logistical aspects needs associated with the Democracy and Security Network

· Assist with various research needs associated with research products produced by the Democracy and Security Network

· Support the planning and logistics of various research and policy reports that focus on the role of the military in facilitating democratic backsliding.

· Support development and donor management efforts by drafting grant reports and proposals

· Interface with GMF information management systems for donor relationship management, email distributions, invoicing, report formatting, file storage, virtual meetings, and other administrative functions

· Monitor political developments, civil society perspectives, and relevant policy issues in eroding democracies in the transatlantic relationship

· Assist the SDI team with other projects, as requested

Internal/External Contacts:

This individual will communicate internally with other GMF staff and with external partners, including donors and government officials.

Autonomy and Responsibility:

This individual is expected to work in close consultation with fellows and other staff, but be capable of owning an event or project from start to finish, asking questions as needed.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

· Approximately six months to two years of prior work or internship experience in a think tank, public sector, or non-profit setting, preferably with administrative experience

· Knowledge of or demonstrable interest in issues of civil-military relations, democracy and security.

· Strong organizational habits and management skills, with superb attention to detail and an ability to meet multiple deadlines and play a central role in the operation of a small and growing team

· Strong computer and database management skills, including experience with Microsoft products and a demonstrable interest in building deep knowledge of GMF systems such as Dynamics, Concept, NetSuite, InDesign, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, and others

· Excellent writing, speaking, and editing skills in English.

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
