We are seeking an experienced Senior Avionics Certification Engineer to join our Design Approval Organization (DAO). Reporting to the DAO Manager, this role is a senior technical authority in avionics certification, with a strong emphasis on STC development, avionics system integration, and regulatory compliance.

You will play a key role in leading end-to-end certification of SKYTRAC avionics systems, including satellite communication systems, onboard connectivity solutions, and associated aircraft integrations. This includes deep involvement in STC programs, from certification planning through approval, as well as ongoing modifications and enhancements.

This role requires strong technical expertise in avionics systems, combined with the ability to lead certification activities, interface with regulators, and guide cross-functional engineering teams.

This is an in-office position, based in Kelowna, BC. Relocation support is available.

As a Senior Avionics Certification Engineer, responsibilities include:

Avionics Certification & STC Leadership

  • Lead certification activities for avionics system installations and modifications, including communication, connectivity, and data systems
  • Own and drive Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) development, including new STCs, amendments, and multi-platform expansions
  • Define and execute certification strategies, plans, and means of compliance for avionics systems
  • Ensure compliance with applicable airworthiness regulations (TCCA, FAA, EASA, etc., as applicable)

Avionics Systems Design & Compliance

  • Review and approve avionics-related design data, including system architecture and interface definitions, wiring diagrams, EWIS, installation drawings, equipment mounting and integration designs, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), and Flight Manual Supplements (FMS)
  • Review and approve compliance documentation, including System Safety Assessments (SSA, FHA, PSSA), Electrical Load Analysis (ELA), environmental qualification (DO-160), and EMI/EMC and RF considerations
  • Provide technical oversight of avionics integration into aircraft platforms

Regulatory Engagement

  • Act as a primary technical interface with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) and support engagement with foreign authorities
  • Lead technical discussions, certification reviews, and approval activities related to avionics systems
  • Support or exercise delegation (if applicable) for avionics certification approvals

Program Execution & Flight Test Support

  • Support and lead aircraft surveys, installations, and avionics integration activities
  • Provide guidance during ground and flight test campaigns, including certification test witnessing
  • Ensure avionics systems meet performance, safety, and certification objectives throughout execution

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in avionics certification and integration
  • Mentor engineers on avionics certification processes, STC development lifecycle, and installation and integration best practices
  • Provide leadership across engineering, programs, and certification teams to resolve complex technical challenges

DAO Governance & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Support DAO activities, including Airworthiness Control Committee (ACC) participation, internal and external audits, and continuous improvement of certification processes
  • Collaborate with internal teams, installers, vendors, and operators to ensure alignment on avionics integration and certification deliverables

What You Bring

Candidate Must Have’s

  • Engineering degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in aircraft certification, with a strong avionics focus
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing
  • Demonstrated experience with avionics system integration, certification, and STC development and approval processes
  • Strong knowledge of TCCA airworthiness regulations, certification processes, and avionics compliance requirements (DO-160, system safety, EWIS)
  • Experience reviewing complex technical documentation with close attention to detail
  • Ability to lead certification programs from planning through approval
  • Willingness to travel as required

  • Deep expertise in satellite communications systems (SATCOM), connectivity/data systems, and RF systems and antenna installations
  • Experience with multi-aircraft STC programs or fleet-wide deployments

This position is for an existing vacancy within our DAO team.

The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000 CAD. The range posted is a guide and may not represent the compensation offered to the successful candidate. Compensation is based on the skills, knowledge, experience, and qualifications brought to the role.
